After opening some other restaurants in Europe, with six restaurants in the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), a man named Raymond Warrens opened a restaurant in the city of Goes, in the Netherlands in 1988.

So, guess what the name of the restaurant was?

The name was: "Wendy's", named after Raymond's youngest daughter!

Now, let's skip to the year 1995.
Wendy's was no longer active in the Benelux and Raymond Warrens took his chance.
Raymond trademarked the brand "Wendy's" for the Benelux, which was allowed because of the inactivity.
Because of this, Wendy's could not open any restaurants in the Benelux.

From this moment on, Wendy's has been in a legal war with the Dutch Wendy's, trying to find some loophole which would allow them to establish restaurants in the Benelux.
