I recently was wondering what it'd be like to rent a cheap place for a few months in Mexico to focus both on writing, and immersing myself in learning Spanish.
Anyone here have any recommendations on where the best or cheapest place to do this?
Would this be dangerous, or is that just American media and propaganda?

You could try San Miguel de Allende. There are many expats there and the town is pretty enough to be "inspiring" if you're a writer. However, the state of Guanajuato has high murder rates, so do this at your own risk

The cheapest rent I've seen in my city was a one room house with a bathroom and front yard for 2000 pesos.
You could even get something cheaper if you don't mind having a roommate.

recently went to Mexico City, Hidalgo, and Puebla.
Coyoacan is great but it's not cheap at all. Maybe stay there for a week or something
desu I think Pachuca was fucking awesome, Hidalgo is a great state and I lived there with my GF's family for a bit. I was in a more rural area but having visited Pachuca it's a nice place and cheap too. Hidalgo is also the third safest state in the country, so you're not really likely to get murdered or mugged even. Just don't use valuable valuables in public and go out alone late at night and you'll be fine
