Unlike other western countries, the majority ethnic group in Israel is actually growing compared to the minorities. Even secular and traditional Jews have relatively high fertility rate compared to Arabs in the Galilee for example. We are NOT in danger of becoming anywhere near a minority EVER. Democracy is not a danger to Israel or to the Jewish people.
A democracy is worth to preserve as it is the least oppressive way to settle differences between groups of people who have ideological differences.
Israel's democracy is in danger. Knesset MPs are proposing laws that will give immunity to the prime minster, even though there are no term limitations. We could effectively have a criminal prime minister who will keep breaking the law in order to keep getting elected again and again.
We have religious parties who openly declare they want a religious state, and are doing everything in their means to keep their electorate brainwashed, dependent on them, and growing in population. They already block any attempt to allow public transportation in Saturdays. They control the marriage institutions and many people end up having to marry in foreign countries because by Jewish religious law they aren't allowed to.
The courts are constantly under attack and de-legitimized. Yes we might need reform in the court system and make it more democratic, but the whole point in modern democracies is that there is a separation of the courts, the parliament, and the executive branch. We need courts that make sure new laws abide by the old laws. If a court can somehow block your suggested new law, it means that there are previous laws that are at odds with your new one. Either change the old ones, or just stfu.
The Arab citizens of Israel are mostly anti-democratic and anti-Jewish. They will never participate in a healthy manner in the democratic process. They prevent the formation of any government without the religious parties.

There's a lot of blame against the current leader, Gabai, saying he was trying to "overtake bibi from the right" which appealed to nobody and generally making poor mistakes, Gabai announced he won't step down from leadership of labor because like any good socialist, he will latch on to it until he brings it crashing into the ground, there are some open calls to overthrow him.
TL;DR: they were REALLY relevant, then not really relevant, and now they're a shadow of their former self and their parents party.

I'm the guy from You're going to suffer in basic training and will be punished harshly all the time, this is on purpose and not because the commanders are dicks, have a healthy amount of emotional disconnect from it, don't take the commanders being mad too much to heart.
Try not to get confrontational with your squad m8s, there's a lot of stress and it may be inevitable, but it just makes your stay there even worse.
You're going to be forced to do things you are 100% sure you are incapable of achieving, you will then be amazed when you achieve them.
And most importantly, get hyped and do everything with as much dedication, motivation and hype as you can, It makes it more fun and keeps the frustration away, you're there anyway and there's no point in falling into a stagnating apathy, make the most of it!
I guarantee you, you have no idea where your limits are, and you will be shocked what a vast distance there is between the point where you feel like you can't go on anymore, and when you actually can't go on anymore.
I've learned I start feeling like I couldn't go another meter barely halfway into my actual physical limitations.

Waking up early could definitely make the start of basic training easier, don't worry about hitting the gym too much though.
combatant roles that aren't special units do basic training with the assumption the new recruit is in no way in shape, I was shockingly out of shape and underweight, and I was fine.
I even heard some people who came to the army in shape actually got out of shape during basic training.

It's hard to say, every army has a different army tradition, but I think our advice are solid enough for any conscription based army in a country that isn't absolute totalitarian garbage, so conscription in your half of the Korean peninsula should probably be fine.
Also, if you have any choice on the matter, try getting into a role where you will feel you contribute, nothing shits on a person's service more than serving in a role they don't care for.

gear: (all concrete numbers I give are given with the assumption you leave every 2 weeks for home, adjust the numbers according to what you know and disregard anything that isn't appropriate in your local armed forces, get advice from people who've already been there)
-underwear - enough for a fresh one every day plus 1 or two extra, worst case scenario grab some soap, a bucket, go to the sink and wash them manually
-socks - same as above, but I suspect they'll provide you with proper high, thick military socks
(in israel the socks we get in the army are bretty gud but the underwear are decisively unusable)
-a few shirts for wearing under your uniform, make sure they're in standard color!! you don't need more than 3, embrace the filth!
-cloths for before sleep+during sleep, a t-shirt, comfy pants, and a hoodie in case it's cold
-workout cloths for training off the uniform - t-shirt (preferably dry fit), workout shorts (yes, shorts, even if it's cold! you'll heat up like crazy during the workout!), 2 pairs of short socks and running shoes.
-toothbrush and toothpaste, don't forget it!
-soap, I recommend the 3-in-1 soaps, since you'll have very short hair
-shaving utensils, I strongly recommend an electric shaver, saves a shit load of time you'll need in the morning, since you'll have like 7 minutes for your whole squad to shave over the same few sinks
-flip flop(!) - ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL(!!!) - you're going to shower with them on, if you use common showers barefoot you'll get fungus and it'll generally be kinda gross.
-towel, you'll probably get one from the army, but you can buy towels that dry up faster, they work very well, regular towels never dried up until morning for me, maybe has to do with the humidity of 8 dudes sharing the same room.
-GET A DIGITAL WATCH! since you'll be timed all the time in basic training, the popular choice in the Israeli army is the rugged, bulky, casio ones, but a terrorist watch will serve you just as well.

you don't have to wake up early but get used to jump out of bed the moment you wake up and get dressed quick, make your bed, and brush your teeth.
make sure you familiarize yourself with a personal system to shower quickly.
also practice standing for extended periods.
if you want to work out cardiovascular fitness will aid you the most.

some more tips for the army since I'm in a commander mood now:
-don't bring expensive things, including electronics, on Saturday and half of Friday we have days off even in basic training (thank god for religious inclusivity!), and I've spent them well just with my phone and some anime and movies I downloaded to it, bond with your company m8s.
you don't know who you'll be with and who might be a thief, but if you bring locks for your bag I guarantee you won't find the key when you're rushing in the morning to dress up and at some point you'll just give up on locks, just don't bring stealable shit, a laptop or tablet just isn't really worth it before you trust everyone (and frankly, even after)
-Don't forget your charger, for obvious reasons, a charger with multiple exists will allow more phones to connect and will limit the amount of fighting over available electric sockets.
-If you smoke, gear up before! you can probably buy them at the base but as a recruit you'll be very limited in how much time you have to spend 'shopping'.
-over here you'd get some recruits trying to gain veteran credentials they don't deserve by ruining their shoes to make them look more worn out or something like that, don't be like them, there's no quicker way to look like a mouth breathing, green rookie
-please don't make the same mistakes I did and don't neglect personal hygiene when you're too tired
-try not to make too much noise when going to bed and after lights out, you'll share a room with a shitload of people, be polite!
-consider where your base will be, if it's dry, consider hand moisturizer, if it's green, consider mosquito repellent.
-talcum powder might be nice, but it's not magic, don't dump it by the spoonfuls every day
-generally consider what products like the above two you'll need and only take what you'll REALLY need, save space, save weight.
