They backed off from nuclear power but since renewable energy is much harder to come by than gas or coal they're emitting more greenhouse gasses.

Nuclear waste isn't all that more toxic than a bunch of other hazardous materials that end up in public landfills.

It's much easier to contain the the fertilizers we put in our food and end up fucking up the waterbeds or the factory and car smoke that we breathe in everyday. Living near a high traffic road increases your cancer rate more than living near a nuclear power plant - whose increased risk of cancer boils down to 0.

btw I don't agree with the addition of biomass to the fossil fuels block, since biomass is renewable, and it can even be low on carbon maybe even neutral someday, since it turns carbon that was already in the short carbon cycle (carbon contained in living things specially plants) and was going to get out to the atmosphere soon even if you didn't burn it. Like, burning a tree never puts out more CO2 than the CO2 that tree gobbled up from the atmosphere to grow that much; timber could be carbon neutral fuel if we planted more trees, like the Nordics do.

Nearly all energy sources are directly dependent on the oil industry. Without oil:

>No transport to evacuate nuclear waste or carry specialists in case of need to nuclear power plants

The day it will cost one barrel of petroleum to extract one barrel of petroleum, everything will crumble, and we will fall back to the way of life of the early 20th century. Only back then, they still had coal too.

Because until this very day humans still haven't found a solution for thr long term storage problem of nuclear waste. In the end it was an overhyped technology that fell short on delivering on its promises with unresolved security while becoming outdated over time.
