What the fuck happened to Italy? Why doesn't its economy grow and why do so many people leave? With its good climate and multiple famous cities, shouldn't it always be a top country? How did it get fucked up?

EU and euro
fucked leadership, corruption, no one paying taxes.
why do the same corrupt politicians get elected over and over again?
Despite everything, Italy is still one of the top economies of the world and definitely one of the best countries to live in.
Spain replaced it
Because they like them on a personal level.
Italy hasn't changed much in the last couple of millennia, deal with it and move on praising baltic whiteness or whatever
damm it's over innit?
Because we are shit like we have always been, brown people deserve brown countries
Based
Everything takes years of bureaucracy so companies are leaving. EU offers better opportunities for young people so they all go to UK and Germany. Their governments never manage to last 5 years so the country always seems unstable (and not a good investment)
which is weird because Italy has never been as stable as today, compared to the 1970s-1990s.
It's all because of the Southern part of Italia, which is at best Africa tier.
During that period you had a lot of important companies (FIAT, Olivetti, rubber/plastic companies, etc) that now are less interesting or don't exist anymore. I think you didn't catch up with internet revolution, among other things. Sad, considering that Olivetti was so promising.
yeah but we had like a terror attack every other week
the south's only chance is to become a seaside resort for poor tourists like Spain, there's potential but it's wasted right now
have you ever seen a socialist country succed?
All those points remind me of home
This wouldnt fucking happen with IL DVCE
Yes the USSR
based. Italy needed hard communism after ww2
>Italy needed hard communism
yes, everyone knows kids need to be vaccinated to prevent future diseases
Political situation was more clear imo. I mean you had like 200 Andreotti governments lmao Today it seems all so confused. Salvini and M5S seems dangerous for the EU and Berlusconi and Renzi are basically dead so there's no clear opponent. This is what scares the markets imo
Italy is the Argentina of Europe
And Argentina is the Italy of the Americas
And no, that's not a good thing
>This is what scares the markets
propaganda and lies scare them
Wrong pic. But I'm too lazy to delete and search again so whatever
Yeah, propaganda and lies by the government
Well that's also true since I doubt they'll try to go out of EU but both parties were anti euro/ anti eu before. So I can see why EU don't like them
>the state of Piedmontcucks
without Turin it would be even worse
corruption happens everywhere and tax evasion is due to a lot of factors like high level of taxes, taxation system too complicate, etc.
The real problem is that with the end of the old parties in the 90s we haven't had anymore good politicians
i love italy
youre lying op
itqly is greater than u
This is the only correct answer.
cute
stay safe and beware of the eternal frog
Solve this riddle to find out.
thank you greatest african ally. i'm sad for your country situation. stay safe
Because democracy is a lie?
It sucks Italy was so inept and making an empire and allowed the Spanish and french to spread their faggot languages so far
Italian language is gay as a fuck too.
French is manlier than any other language.
Spanish is indeed atrocious. My first thought when I see someone speak spanish is to cut their tongues with a butter knife
A
>french is manlier than any other language
Well. They have lots of niggers who don’t contribute, and they also have a Mussolini who is still in power..

Tell Haftar I said hi and wish him well (make sure he is eating his greens)
>the south's only chance is to become a seaside resort
Why isn't South Italy popular for tourists? Isn't it a bit like Greece?
I‘ll be in vacation in Croatia this summer. Where can I find a Croatian qt even nearly hot like the goddess on the left?
wakata
>Why isn't South Italy popular for tourists?
It is, just not as much as the north.
anglos need to learn to shut the fuck up
why korwatia?
Almost everyone who visits "Italy" just takes a Rome-Florence-Venice week trip. But seeing how aggressive this type of mass tourism is, I don't think I want it here.
Why not? Nice landscape, mountains, beaches and the people are also great. I have some Croatian friends and they are based as hell.
Shit infrastructure and natives unable to speak in English
No
It's just a phase.
A long one yet still just a phase.
Malaka come on, In comparisson to the mass immigration in the WW periods this is nothing AND it's more local.
the richest part what does produce to be so rich? Speck and Apples
They are rich only because they get taxes form the Italians that they dislike so much.
Fuck them and fuck you Amerimutt Germanboo
You can't really deny that french is a feminine language
I never said it sounded ugly just by no means manly
Hmm... this sounds strangely familiar...
this
the euro is too overvalued for our economy
they're rich because of tourists from germany
How so? We depend on energy imports
Public services are very good in every part of the country.
>Implying near regions don't get German tourists
not as much as Sudtirolo, look up the numbers. It's also much less populated than Veneto and Lombardia so GDP per capita is higher
I doubt it's the tourists. Alto Adige is just like Veneto but with less taxes. It's obvious they do well
I genuinely believe that meds as a whole are completely incapable of making an even vaguely efficient institution
Argentinians are just Spanish'd Italians so of course it sounds familiar
they do tourism well
0 protestant work ethic. They're in the pope's sphere of laziness.
So does Veneto, but it's not like their economy is based on tourism
Isn't Austria catholic?
like Ireland and south germany
>two of the five top countries are Catholic and another one has a substantial amount of Catholics
is this accounted for cost of living, though?
Spain has surprassed Italy in every economic metric per capita at this point. Their industry is more competitive, their banking is much better, their infrastructure is miles better, its cities are tidier and cleaner, its population is more educated, its active population is as large as Italy's with less population and services in Spain have a much higher added value than Italy's. The north of Italy is in an industrial decay as they haven't figured out how to adpat to the new economic order. They are surviving using debt to finance their humongous public sector. Blaming the south for everything is a meme as the north of the country is as stagnant as decadent as the south at this point
How can the North revolutionize its industrial sector with one of the highest OCSE taxations and none of the returns?
Italian banks and hedge funds have invested very little in upcoming sectors and mostly invested all of their savings in national bonds and house mortages. The high fiscal pressure is an issue but is the only way that the country can sustain its current economic model of national debt and public employment. Italy needs a severe restructure of its public administration and a good reform to its education if it doesn't want to collapse. There is plenty of capable human capital in the country that has been wasted on sheer political incompetence
There's plenty of actual capital wasted in non-productive areas. Look at the levels of fiscal surplus in the northern regions. Way over the EU average, and this is even considering an absurdly high taxation and no investments
>good climate makes people rich
wrong
Italian banks invest mostly on public bonds. Most of Italy's debt is own by its banks. All your savings are going to finance an inefficient burocracy and a corrupt political caste while banks get tax exempts in the form of loan interests to the state that are backed up by the European Central Bank. If Italy reduces the size of the Italian administration public bonds would not be emitted as often an Italian banks would invest in productive areas of the economy
You're just repeating yourself and not addressing my point
What point? That high taxes are the problem? Italy needs high taxes to pay its burocracy, its aging population and the constant debt influx by the BCE. It all boil downs to public employment believe it or not.
>EU
Absolutely not
>euro
Partially
No, you fucking retard, Italy had Keynesian economics for all of the 90s and they kept devaluing the currency so you exported a ton of shit to other places and it looked like you got reach.
But now not only you have joined the eurozone which prevents you from devaluing your currency all the time, your supply and demand balance is completely fucked because money was so cheap (everybody spent it cos it's value was so devalued all the time).
Oh it's also your answer (OP)
that is part of the reason, yes
