There are a lot of interesting anthropological works. But a lot of today's literature is predictable and practically contrived. Academics seem to view any minority groups as manipulated vessels, lacking agency and serving solely to be manipulated or marginalized by "neoliberal forces" and inequitable institutions. Very few authors explore practical aspects of real problems, preferring instead to focus on abstractions and theory. For instance, I recently had to peruse an ethnography on pollution and asthma rates in urban centers. The author actually made some great points, but her suggestion was "combat climate change."

I am also fucking sick of people constantly inventing terms like "heterosexism" and "thin privilege."

Useless fucking field. Some anthropologists have done great work with conflict issues, but everything pertaining to race within a Western context is a fucking political minefield.

For me it was mostly World War 2 and the rise of communism in Russia, and some stupid case studies like the Jarrow March and fucking Congolese independence. Imo history in school should be taught as the history of the entire world, I pretty much spent 2 years learning all the little autistic details about WW2 and it did nothing for me. History should be used to teach critical thinking skills, not just pointlessly memorizing facts, but what the facts mean and how they show why the world is as it is today. Like how most modern European states are rooted in the Germanic migrations, how China went from Warring States to Imperialism to Communism, how Europeans colonized the world and eventually gave birth to all modern American states. The history of all the great civilizations in the world should be given at least a brief overview.

This is just my idealized view of how history should be taught though, I realize history in school is a tool of propaganda. I took a much greater interest in history after I left school and probing the average person about their knowledge of world history hurts my soul.

America contributed far less than they think they did and much of what they did send was not popular with Soviets
Most of lend lease occurred after the Soviets had already effectively won the war and only served to hasten Germany's surrender by a few months the Soviets would have won even if there had been no lend-lease from America
