This is peanuts, we get way bigger and scarrier tornados all the time. This one here in pic related was 4.2km wide and had winds of 282 kph. That twister sucked up a bunch of stormchasers too, pretty sad incident.

Some do and that would be the best place to be during a tornado. It's hard to build them in certain areas though. In my state the soil is red clay which is unstable due to its ability to expand and contract
