I think part of it is that we get taught BE in primary school (so British spelling, grammar and shit) but later on no one cares and we basically can speak and write however we want as long as the spelling is consistent and the grammar isn’t totally implausible. Those lax teaching/scoring guidelines paired with the snippets you get from Internet-English lead to some rather ... unique mutt mixtures of English.
Feelsbadman honestly since I took it as an advanced course in school and did well. But hey, at least my comprehension level is more or less on a native level. Communicating is overrated anyways ;'(

Well, historically not really, at least not in the upper echelons. There were some politicians in former Nazi positions who more or less were able to continue business as usual but again, not on a national level. More middle or upper middle management types. Biologically the same applies for the most part. There weren’t any offspring from the top Nazis who later rose to power or anything like that.

As for serious versus seriously, I know about the underlying grammar and that it should be an adverb that modifies the verb, not an adjective, but somehow I got it into my head that it was “to take sth. serious”. Kinda like that whole doing good versus doing well. I dunno. But I’ll trust you as the (presumably) native speaker here to be correct.

German public is pro-EU because they are constantly told to be and Germans on average are very obedient people. The elites are pro-EU because it makes them buttmad America STILL tells them what to do and because having a continent-sized market where the other members are forced not to protect themselves against German companies is a sweet deal for Germans. What they pay towards the EU is pennies compared to that and German government is just an extension of their industry which makes sure nothing bad can happen to it.

Nah, we're the ones that have to pick up the pieces and rule. I'm not for the EU but looking at our past I can understand that many want to fit with political views of other nations. Especially France, Britain and the USA. A lot of us just think we managed to understand liberalism, freedom and democracy. So we try to blackmail others to take those values that the winning powers "teached" us after WW2 serious and don't allow any kind of wrong thinking that might lead to another fascist regime.
