3. It seems to my even rarer when they manage to make money. What's the most notorious example? Chögyam Trungpa? It seems he had many problems despite having written nice books. His example is shown in the documentary "Crazy Wisdom" if you're interested. You also have Sogyal Rinpoche who had many problems and still has some, again, despite having been apparently fairly wise and having authored a fair number of probably good books.
Most usually, these Asian masters are pretty poor in my experience.
