The Anglican church is the Episcopalian church over here, actually. The whole "king of England as pontif" didn't fly so well after the revolution, so there are some minor changes in doctrine.
But in any case, no; the country was actually primarily colonized by minority religious communities rather than proper Anglicans, so it was never particularly popular in the first place. They're only like 5% of the population today.
