I live in the Philippines and I use hacked internet. I buy Sun sim cards and register the promos that only allow access to chat sites and facebook. Then I use either VPN or HTTP Injector to access the full internet using an outside server. Can download about 3-5gb per day paying 50 pesos for 5 days using the promo I use. There's another promo that's 50 pesos for 10 days but they are more strict on blocking you when you hit the cap. I've lost so many sim cards to blocking but lol who cares it's 35 pesos for a new one.

I wish there was real internet where I lived. It's a rural area and LTE is the only option.

When the power is out I'm still shitposting. I have a 5v to 12v adapter for my router so I can plug it into a power bank. It's been really rainy today and the power went out 3 times. Everything is cheap and if you stay away from sex tourist areas there aren't a bunch of shitty tourists all over the place. The infrastructure is very very bad, that's the main bad thing. But the people speak at least a little bit of English and are very hospitable. Lots of beautiful natural scenery too.

I don't know about that hack for Globe, mostly on Globe I know you can buy gs50 then use the 2gb for youtube to browse any site using VPNs and stuff when you use up the 1gb. Globe is horrible here too, I'm in Nueva Ecija. There are lots of sellers on Facebook that sell illegally unlocked Globe routers and antennas. They go around asking people who got disconnected to buy their modems. Then they open it up and unlock them to work with any sim card by touching two contacts with tweezers and flashing a different firmware. I did that with my pocket wifi already. I think I paid 1500 or something for the home router and 1000 for the antenna. Some of my wife's family came around and helped me mount the antenna on bamboo like they do with TV antennas. Most of the info on how to do this kind of stuff is on the phcorner forums: phcorner.net/forums/135/ Sun is owned by PLDT/Smart so if there's a good Smart signal in your place their sim cards will be able to connect to that.

Not being an island nation helps I'm sure. When a major cable is cut here and your provider has to dump all the traffic on a backup link it's going to be an absolute disaster.

Internet connection used to be pretty abysmal around where we live, but stable nonetheless. Now with the installation of 15 solar panels to our home, our internet speeds have skyrocketed, but now tends to cut out arbitrarily throughout the day.

Yeah it was quite terrible. For two days it was completely unusable. Since then it's not as good as it used to be. Around 9pm every night the speed drops down to almost nothing. But it picks back up after some time. I used to be able to hit like 60mbit on downloads pretty consistently but 25mbit is the max now.

It's kinda fucked up what Facebook has done here in the Philippines. Using the same promos I talked about they effectively created a monopoly on the internet. For many people Facebook is the internet. The social consequences of this have been pretty bad depending on who you ask and what your politics are.

Are you using DSL, Cable, or some type of wireless connection? I use LTE and I used to get 3 bars when I first installed my outdoor antenna. The strongest signal I ever got until then. In the town where I lived there was no LTE signal at all, leading me to believe I was picking it up from a nearby town. A few days after installing the antenna they finally brought LTE to my town and I was able to get a signal all over, especially at the shops in town, 5 bars everywhere. Maybe around the time you got the panels they changed something.

I have no idea. Never experienced 80mbps ever.

I did at Pancake House in Clark. They have PLDT Fiber installed. They also have a nice Asus router with AC. I downloaded a whole bunch of movies while I was eating. I experienced above 100mbit in the US but that was the fastest I ever used in the Philippines.

Yeah other than PLDT they have Converge fiber through the whole city. I stayed in an AirBNB that has it and it's very fast, I was topping out at like 60mbit, they had a router for each apartment but it wasn't AC so couldn't reach higher speeds. Still was happy to use it to download movies and TV shows all day long.

Other than that whenever I go to SM malls I use my phone to download. Sometimes it reaches up to 60mbit even though they say they have a 100mbit connection.

The people who are gonna live in NCC are so lucky. We're 3rd world compared to those fucks one day.

When I get a house here someday I'm planning to put it somewhere that has Converge fiber, they are all over Central Luzon and also Manila. Price is better than PLDT for similar speeds. All your traffic is mostly going through Hong Kong though instead of Singapore.
