palestinian/jordanian and some lebanese and syrian dialects have less strict rules on it and you can use ma-verb or ma-verb-sh or verb-sh for negation.

You wouldn't usually use present progressive unless you are currently going. It is "I am going" as in I am going now. You are confusing it with "I am going to go" which is future. Your teacher explained it right.
