Thailand poverty line is twice as high as China's. It has less poverty than the PRC which is obvious given that Thailand has a higher GDP per capita and less inequality

Doesn't matter when China has a much more extensive welfare system than Thailand. Hdi adjusted for inequality has China with a higher standard of living than Thailand. The gdp per capita is also created by the huge divide between rural and urban populations. The government must approve a rural family to move to the city, which prevents the formation of urban poverty. Urban income is 3x higher than that or rural, but while rural people lack money they receive more government support. In general, people, especially poor people, have a better life in China than in Thailand. Also China's economy is still growing at twice the rate Thailand is without the crashes Thailands economy faces every now and then.

PPP is used to compare the actual standard of living a country's economy produces; if you're talking about poverty PPP is more appropriate
