soon, I've been reading the icelandic sagas to better understand your culture, Flosi did nothing wrong
wtf Njáll was the good guy
the whole affair seems very tit for tat and complicated beyond good and bad
don't say this in Iceland
just a few years ago they paved over some place Mörður or Guðrún someone was supposed to have lived and in the news they said that only now was Gunnar fully avenged
interesting lasting emotion for such old stories
this is Iceland's heritage - the epics everyone grew up with knowing
also the places are so accurate a lot of people in the countryside from around where the stories take place claim an even closer connection
I wonder if norweigans know their heimskringla as ardently as you do your sagas
>their heimskringla
Heimskringla is Icelandic, it was written by Snorri Sturluson who also wrote the Prose Edda
they know a bit of the contents, not sure to what extent though, but not the original text because Norwegians can't read Old Icelandic untranslated
but it's all about their kings and the like
Norwegians don't like to be reminded that they owe most of their knowledge about their early history to Icelandic writers but that's how it is
It's been translated to Norwegian but I don't think it's read much anymore, certainly not nearly as much as the sagas are in Iceland
a rule of thumb is if it was written in Old Norse and it's actually worth reading to non-specialists (not dry law-texts for instance) the work is Icelandic - there are exceptions to this but that's what they are: exceptions
