If you're extremely desperate, you could join the militay. Marines and Army will take anyone with a pulse, but they aren't very good gigs. All the comfy jobs are in the Coast Guard and Air Force, but they are notoriously picky compared to the other three (the Coast Guard exceptionally so).

Someone UK, NZ, AU, and CA should have a very easy time joining the US military and vice versa because they are very tightly knit. I know a Russian dude who served in the US military and became a citizen (now teaches engineering at a local college) so you shouldn't have trouble.

If you're bored in NZ you'd probably still be bored here. Maybe the Culture changes some, but you'd need to know where you want to move first. Plus, getting a well paying job in that location. Some people can be extremely political which gets annoying fast, but there's all kinds of different crowds. Also, research the quality of life in different places and crime stats ect.
