So I am likely going to be moving to China with my wife for a few years or perhaps the rest of my life...

So I am likely going to be moving to China with my wife for a few years or perhaps the rest of my life. I am in my late 20's, have a degree in civil engineering with about 4 years experience in estimating, project management and other low level white collar construction experience. All of my work experience is in Canada so it's not from a third world shithole.

Will I be able to get a decent job in China or am I pretty much putting an end to any kind of decent career? I would rather fucking kill myself then to teach English for the rest of my life like a peon.

I have been to China over 10 times now and know a bit of Mandarin already if that helps. We will likely be living in Shenzen or Guangzhou.

>mfw she asks me if I am excited to be moving there

I am worried anons.

user listen to me
Are you listening?

Youre fucked

Why are you moving?

How to build a great career

Step 1. Stop being a fucking beta who lets a woman control your whole life

Step 2. There is no step 2

>he fell for the women meme
>he fell for the STEM meme
>he fell for the chink meme

But seriously, you don't have many options. Even if you know "a bit of Mandarin," it's going to be a huge uphill battle convincing an employer to pick you over a native to do something besides English teaching.

user please help me.
Basically because I know if we lived there our lives would be completely different. Her family are extremely wealthy so my wife would never have to worry or work. We could have children knowing her family would WANT to take care of them for us. A penthouse apartment waiting for us to live in anytime we want to move there along with a Bentley downstairs for me to drive.

I could not provide the same lifestyle for my wife unless I was earning a million a year in my home country. meanwhile her father brings in over 2 million USD a year.

The downside is that he can't help me with a job other than giving me a job as a token white guy or a role in his company where I know I would be useless due to language and skill barrier. I don't want to be seen as a leech or loser English teacher. The only way to avoid this is by having a decent job which is what I am worried about.

I don't know much about civil engineering but if you have any value-add (specific expertise) over a Chinese engineer then you won't have a job that area.

Really the only foreigners that do well in China are those:

a) Sent from foreign companies or governments.
b) Highly skilled in their area (professors, experts).

The general rule is that if the Chinese can replicate what you're doing then you won't have a job in that area.

English teaching will probably be your best option as your native speaking ability and skin can't be copied.

Another option is to open your own business in your wife's name. Restaurants are a common option for example.

Other than that, at least your living on the coast and not stuck in some inland hellhole. But yeah, rest of your life in China... good luck.

>But seriously, you don't have many options. Even if you know "a bit of Mandarin," it's going to be a huge uphill battle convincing an employer to pick you over a native to do something besides English teachin

I know this and this is why I am very worried. I have skilled and enough experience in my home country to be earning nearly 6 figures but none of it matters if I can't find a foreign company over there. If anyone on this dam site knows something that may help me it would be on this board.

Jesus. Tired and repeating sentences.

If you don't* have any value-add (specific expertise) over a Chinese engineer then you..

well for one you're going to have a minder at all times. Not necessarily someone following you, but you will have someone responsible for you nearly 24/7. Nothing in china works, lots of rundown old towns and temples that have been left to rot. You probably wont have a hard time finding a job but don't be upset if you get passed over for work in favor of a chinese national, that's normal.

Companies in china will sometimes hire white "actors" to be present at bids for goverment tenders. They big you up to be some specialist from EU who doesn't speak chinese. They do this in order to impress the gov and win the bid. There has even been a case of a doctor being hired off this when in fact he had no medical training

>The general rule is that if the Chinese can replicate what you're doing then you won't have a job in that area.

This is what I am learning and what I'm afraid of. My ideal situation is if there is some kind of construction or property related industry in China which NEEDS English speakers for whatever reason.

I know there are quantity surveyor consultant companies around China who hire a lot of English speakers but they are generally always high experienced roles.

>well for one you're going to have a minder at all times.
I know this. I have been there many times and have enough mandarin to do the basics alone if I had to. But the moment I can't stay 1 word and point to communicate I am fucked.

>Companies in china will sometimes hire white "actors" to be present at bids for goverment tenders.

Are you serious? I at least have experience submitting and bidding for construction tenders...

I have heard of them paying for white actors to make it look like construction projects are very popular with the whitey. But nothing like what you mentioned..

What ever happens as long as you are white. Your will be alright.
Just teach English or be a white actor for corporate gigs. They fucking love white people.
If you're not white well then.......

This. White people are worshiped everywhere you go around the world. Even by countries that were genocides by whites. Shitskins may hate us but they wish they were born white

I am white but you over estimate how much we are valued in China these days.

I have noticed big time how much attention or well accepted I was in my early 20's compared to now in my late 20's. Older you get the less people give a shit.

You're fucked. China is seriously cutting down on foreigners working there. Even English teachers are under threat. Unless you can get a job with a western company who will pay you to be there your employment prospects are shit

Just fucking splendid news.

lived in shenzhen for a while its fun at first but hits you all at once after a while. better go to hk brah.

Unironically was in Shenzhen a week ago visiting my factory.

No exaggeration, did not see another white person there the entire time. Nobody speaks English. Have fun user.

also once you let her family have such control it will be slowly ogre for you srs

That's fucked mate. Whatever you do don't accept gibs from her father in any form unless you're proposing an investment opportunity.

She's free to get gibs from her father if she's not satisfied in terms of material needs, but don't even think about living in the penthouse and driving their car.

Jesus Christ why would you marry a woman from another country this is so retarded. Multiculturalism is so retarded this is why you stick with your own and you don't end up in confusing bullshit like this. The worst part is if you go to China, she decides to divorce you, and you go back to America with a huge fucking gap in your actual skilled employment history. I guess that's what happens when you fall under the spell of sideways pussy with no allegiance to your country.

Exactly well said bro

Please tell me what hits you exactly? I have been to China and stayed there for months at a time in places such as Shandong, Dongguan, Hong Kong and Shenzhen. I always enjoyed my time but knew that if I lived here the language was my biggest barrier. What else am I in for user?
I don't expect to live there without learning the language. I know the basics to get by alone at a bare minimum and would be learning it.
Please tell me more of what you mean.
>She's free to get gibs from her father if she's not satisfied in terms of material needs, but don't even think about living in the penthouse and driving their car.

Yes and no. He is fully offering to GIVE me one of his many many cars and allowing me to live in one of his many properties. I am aware though that this is because I am his son in law and not his son.

I know my place and this is why I am so concerned about not being a failure with a shit job and career. I know that my welcome will be fully worn off the moment I shift into a leech lifestyle.

We have been married for 4 years and she is in her 30's. I am not worried about this. Also we both own 50% of a 1.8 million dollar apartment in my country so I feel quite safe. Unless I cheat on her I am fine.

Thoughts on the food? I have a relative who lives in Guangdong (can't remember which city) and he says the food is fucking awful. Says the people are nice though.

You'll feel like an outsider the whole time and slowly realise you're at the mercy of the local police/government. If somehow you fuck up something legal/visa wise or other then you have no back up and no one giving a shit about you.

also less to no regulations on a lot of products so your healh is going to take a toll

and for the other post youll end up being the bitch in the power dynamics with wife, father in law etc and its hard to recover from that.

food in shenzhen and hong kong was amazing desu senpai

Southern Chinese food is perhaps the best in China.

>nd for the other post youll end up being the bitch in the power dynamics with wife, father in law etc and its hard to recover from that.
This i can agree may happen.

what were your career and life plans before her proposal to move back? How will moving out affect your goals? please don't move if you can't land a position in an international career relevant firm with a branch in China.

Like said power dynamics in the family is the main issue here. Don't move out. Let her do whatever she wants but you cannot be the guy with more to lose

Why is the money so appealing to you? It's not like you two would be poor if you stayed in Canada. Your children would still have very comfortable lives. If you're not 100% on board with moving I think you should talk about it more carefully with your wife before doing it.

>what were your career and life plans before her proposal to move back? How will moving out affect your goals? please don't move if you can't land a position in an international career relevant firm with a branch in China.

I have been working as a low level construction project manager for medium residential commercial sized projects such as 10 story office blocks. Before this I was in estimating and quantity surveying. I more or less planned to continue this to try and perhaps open my own building company depending on my experience.

Moving will pretty much halt this career path unless I can continue it in China. Very few people would hire me if I were to return a few years later and I would be stuck in the grubby companies playing catch up. So pretty much this will dictate my entire career for the rest of my life I'd say.

.>if you can't land a position in an international career relevant firm with a branch in China.
I think this is going to be the best advice I get. I am trying to find international companies that require construction professionals but it seems slim.

>Why is the money so appealing to you? It's not like you two would be poor if you stayed in Canada. Your children would still have very comfortable lives. If you're not 100% on board with moving I think you should talk about it more carefully with your wife before doing it.

Well money is appealing for a few reasons I guess.

1. Would be because I want the best for my wife and future children which compared to her life in China I could never come close. We would not be poor but I could earn $200,000 a year and still not even be close to the life she could be living plus what my kids could be living.
2. In most cases money brings respect especially in the eyes of the Chinese. Money + the job you are doing I suppose but more on the former. This is why whatever I do in China concerns me so much even though I would be married into a family who are filthy rich.

>he couldn't get a real girlfriend he had to get a gook

Enjoy your neurotic hapa mutt offspring OP. I'm sure your life as the only foreigner is going to be wonderful

Attached: 2ec.png (600x580, 572K)

yeah nah the deeper this thread goes the more fucked it gets. You have a bright future as a small-scale developer, don't move.

>I want the best for my wife and future children
And the best way to do that is to be a strong father figure for your kids. Anything other than good education is secondary.

I can't help but feel that this is a massive shit test from your wife user.

not sure if larp but you defo should move if you have a cuck fetish

Even if you can find a job in your field, the construction industry is very different over there. They build scaffolds out of zip ties and bamboo. There are few to no safety regulations and very lax building codes. Enjoy having a coworker die every few days. If you spend any appreciable amount of time on-site, the dead guy could be you.

I'm seeing you loosing your career and wife in China. I would recommend to choose for your career, because it will be always with you. Forget about other people money and you wife's ideas. Don't be a fool.

wait a minute you can’t just cross post on biz and r9k

I made my rich Chinese wife stay in America. She supports me through medical school. So I basically have it made. No debts, paid off house, going to be a doctor. If she divorces me someday I will still be better off having married her. I also don't have to act like a beta around her father since I'm actually doing something with my life in my own country. You should only go to China is you can figure out how to options trade full time and eventually make 6-7 figures yearly doing it. Or you can create a successful business in China with your wife as the pretend owner since China won't let you be the owner. You have to do something that makes you appear high value if you leave your country. Better to stay in Canada and let her parents pay off your house and cars and continue your career.

>The downside is that he can't help me with a job other than giving me a job as a token white guy or a role in his company where I know I would be useless due to language and skill barrier. I don't want to be seen as a leech or loser English teacher.

Dude who gives a fuck you'll be living the good life at daddy's expense. Unless he has some crazy rule like "You need to get a good job or you won't get any of the money" who gives a shit? You got a free ticket to the good life, go for it and never look back.

kek someone please post the screencap from Jow Forums from a guy that lives in china about doing business with chinese people

LMFAOOO NIGGA SHE GNA LEAVE UR STUPID WHITE ASS ... MANS GNA GO TO CHINA THINKING HE GNA GET WORK LMFAOOOOOO GOOD LUCK LIVING UNDER THE TIT OF HER FATHER. . . . YOULL BRING SHAME TO HER AND THE FAMILY SO SHELL LEAVE U FOR A MULTI MILLIONAIRE IN LESS THAN 4 YEARS. JUST AFTER SHES STOLEN ALL THE GLOW FROM UR YACUBIAN EXTERIOR

Unless you're willing to learn the language and become fluent I have a very bad feeling about this, my dude. You sound unhappy and uncertain and this 'opportunity' would bestow you with great wealth. If your gut instinct isn't to go and continue your own path I would advise you to do that.

In fact I have all the respect for you considering you seem disheartened about not working or earning your keep. I seriously doubt you'll be able to get any sort of job that doesn't involve you as a dancing monkey. It's going to slowly kill you user. The death of your ambitions and dreams will eventually consume you and it won't end well. Man needs freedom and he needs to contribute. It's what keeps you from becoming a bugman or going insane.

>marrying a third worlder and then mivibg there
dude what are you doing

Attached: China.png (1400x5552, 1.09M)

Here is a fucking counter-point. Stay in America and get her father to invest in you and your businesses.

You will be betraying your homeland of course but you already did that.

Move to Macau or Hong Kong or don't go at all. Really you shouldn't go to even the SARs but at least they won't lock you up for """insulting China""" or when they need a westerner to lock up for political leverage. I would advise you not to go but if you absoulutely must you should make a life in one of the SARs.

>am aware though that this is because I am his son in law and not his son.
You are trading your masculinity and dignity for money from a chink. I hope a chink escalator sucks you under and kills you mate.

True.
They are and they will.
That's why White and (((white))) elites try to mutt out the competition into a plebeian caste.

Classic keks.

just get a job with one of the big international engineering firms. get placed in china

for someone with a stem degree youre a fucking idiot.

Just stay the fuck in Oklahoma Jack.

Show you got balls.

based, thank you. didn't think anyone would have it. anyone that buys chink coins after reading this is a brainlet.

LEARN MANDARIN. dude if you are really moving there do the right thing and learn their language and customs and integrate and work for her father.

You could try reaching out to Wode Maya on youtube. I know he worked as an engineer in China for a bit. If a black man can do it, you should be able to.
youtube.com/watch?v=CJwG03IR2Mw

Why are you moving there? I'm Canadian and I work in China currently. What salary are you looking at?

Attached: 1542115452699.jpg (443x455, 40K)

What stops her wealthy family from taking care of her while she lives in the West?

Why don't you just stay in Canada and tell your wife's dad to send the gibs onto your daughters bank account via electricity and electromagnetic waves. He can send the cash to you and you can buy that Bentley in Canada.

Have fun being on the point system

>not being the provider
>your wife's family taking care of you
Top cuck.
