Income: $3400 net (post insurance, 401k)
Mortgage:1300 base
Utilities/Oil (heat & hot water) /phone : 200
Loan repay: 200 base
Gas: 150
Food/supplies:250
Car insurance/MNT: 150
The other $1,150 I mostly just throw at the mortgage/student loans. I unironically probably spend $10 a month on entertainment (literally a single movie).
I maintain 10,000 in a checking account in case something shits out. It almost never does beyond $500. I don't understand why the average personally has such a hard time with finances. Even when I made $8/hr it was simple.
The best way of describing the uk student loan is free money and graduates get put in a higher tax band. Everyone maxes out the loan for this reason
Are you me sir
>maintain 10,000 in a checking account
Get that shit into a online savings account ASAP
$200 a year isn't worth dealing with bullshit rules about balances and all that crap
If I need to pull it all clean, I want to know my account is free as can be. I have some very boring investments like SO for a small return, but paying the loans/mortgage is better return since I don't pay taxes on nixing future interest.
730€ income
290€ rent
200€ cash on hand (mostly food, some booze, going out 2-3 times a mouth to club, etc, nothing expensive)
230€ savings, mostly use these for other expenses like clothes or public transport (~200€/year)
>$200 a year isn't worth dealing with bullshit rules about balances and all that crap
>bullshit rules
There's literally none. I use Ally and there's no minimum balance, no fees, no rules at all.
The only "rule" is that you can't make more than 6 withdrawals per month, but that's a federal rule for all savings accounts.
If I need my money I can get it out right away by transferring to checking or zelle or w/e
I guess on 10k it's not really a huge deal. For me it's more that I hate getting shafted by the big banks when there's better options
>Ally has deposited $1 into your account for this post
Jokes aside, I'll look into this. I try to optimize all the little edges, but I'll admit to being somewhat lazy about it. My large strategy is just my natural inclination to not splurge on things.
Nah I'm pretty picky about which banking/investing products I use so I wouldn't use something I thought was bullshit.
It matters a little more for me cause my liquid savings are fairly hefty right now (saving for a downpayment within the next 1-2 years) so the interest difference is more like a few hundred a year
