It's also good for developing yourself into finding out what you like and don't like. I had some empty spaces on my resume but ended up lying and filling them.

If you are not willing to take the shit at the bottom of the barrel and you don't get offered anything better, you simply have too big an ego compared to your value (or ability to communicate value). I am a senior in college (last semester going to school part time) who just recently got my 66k career job. I got this job because of connections. This job is at the same company I have been interning at for 1.5 years. The HR rep is my best friends aunt. She let me peek at the resumes and cover letters of the other applicants. I saw 40 year olds with 15 years relevant experience. I saw adjunct University professors. I saw PhD students. I saw people who were flying in from across the country, other people who drove 6 hours just to interview.

There were 17 candidates for 5 positions. I got one. Many people who were more qualified did not. The only reason I got the job was because I've been friendly with the Director for over a year, and because of this HR rep who whispered directly into the hiring managers ear and put in a good word for me.

We don't live in a meritocracy. Qualifications are a meme. Get buddy buddy with the top people at the company. You're wasting your time with HR roasties on Indeed

There's this one place in town who has had the same exact job ad up for two years now for a staff accountant. It's a restaurant with 3 locations in town. Are their HR just so bored they want to collect resumes? Can they not hold on to a worker? I just can't fathom what their issue could be.

These days there's a certain "path" that you have to follow, and if you deviate from it you're fucked. Basically you need to go to a decent college, while you're in college you need to pick up good internships, and then you have to leverage that to get a job straight out of college (or within 4-6 months). If you miss any of those steps, you will have a much, much harder time at getting that first "real" job.
