Depends on the farmer. Most US farmers are wholly reliant on gme seeds and tractors to seed their huge farms. Before the “go big or die” mentality set in and wiped out most small holdings yes farmers would have managed fine but now you can’t grow food on a few acres without the farmers around you destroying your crops with their pesticide run off. The farms themselves are too big to manage the weeds without equipment and modern technology.
People with guns will also protect them. Western PA and Ohio don't play like that.
A million farms have been sold off in the last 50 years, people sold out of farming as it wasn’t very profitable. I guess they’ll be a quick drive back towards small farm holdings again though alot of people will get burned buying the land the mega-farms don’t want. Or mega-farms themselves will become collective farms for those fleeing the cities for food.
