i actually have a thing for really old houses, they are strangely comfy

the dream is a super old abandoned mansion thats been left to rot for decades where there's not even power, water or any heating besides chimneys

not to mention the listing restrictions that will cost you a mill or two every time you need to change "period appropriate" roof tile or a curtain, and property taxes and rates and the army of domestics you need just to keep the lawns mowed and floors swept

In short, buying an old house because of its charm is a guaranteed way to financial ruin. Just as the ones who inherited such places, they never paid a penny for it yet all they have goes into the upkeep.
