Don't do psychology as a major in college. Waste of fucking time. Fuck this fucking shit.
22 - no prospects, got called to work as a kitchen porter starting 9$ an hour.
Ex-Gf is now with a new guy. Go to LinkedIn profile. See he studied Computer science security or some bs. Makes 45k a year.
How the fuck do I weasel my way out of this one? I'm meant to be doing a one year masters degree in psych but now I've realised I've fucked it before I even started.
Go learn programming, I did it without a degree. I quit college, was doing dentistry.
Ryan Phillips
Every girl in college is in psychology or biology. It's the "haha I'm smart and like science" degree for retards. Shouldn't have went for a meme degree
Lincoln Edwards
wow, you literally got a woman's degree, good job
Dominic Harris
Did you at least get together with cute chicks?
Daniel Gonzalez
45k a year with a stem degree is pretty bad dude
Jaxon Bailey
And yes, this is good advice. You’re only 22, you might feel old but you’re not. Imagine being in the same situation you’re in now but you’ve been working dead end jobs for a decade plus. I have many friends that this is the case for.
Connor Ortiz
like 8/9 people who do psychology are there to fix themselves. The meme is real.
Elijah Adams
become a teacher
Carter Garcia
You fucked up bud. There are literally no psych jobs. You must have realized that. Did you not see that all of your classes were filled with dumb bimbos? Ever wonder why you were one of the few guys in there? It is because it is a womens blowoff major you dummy.
Blake Rogers
is it bad for a 22y.o to get another degree?
Connor Miller
How long did the programming take to learn and what did you do with it?
How long did it take to get you a job with your skills and where did you leanr the skills of programming?
Unironically, the class was like 10:1. I banged a few whores.
Thanks fucktard, now what?
Yes, landwhales
Is it pretty bad? I'm a fucking stalker and I see his LinkedIn profile. He's making a great salary it seems. He works in X COMPANY as a cloud associate or some shit. I WAS OFFERED A JOB IN FRAUD MANAGEMENT FOR A BANK AFTER MY DEGREE. SHOULD I HAVE TAKEN IT?
15 EURO AN HOUR STARTING. COULD I HAVE WORKED MY WAY UP? Fuckkkk
Actually OP there is a way out, tech uses a fuckload of psychologists. Look into "UX research" type roles. they analyze and use psych methods to make stuff better. You might need at least a masters though.
Christopher Brown
like I said. Become a teacher.
Mason Hall
Oh, 45k is a lot of money in europoor land I guess. But here in the states, recent grads can easily make double that. Even Indians brought in on H1B visas have to legally make at least $60k.
Tyler Mitchell
I went to school at 23 after traveling for years, and got my CS degree by 27, turned down a couple offers after I graduated and now I'm in graduate school for CS just for the fun of it. Definitely go back if you want it isn't as awkward as everyone says unless you are super beta.
Grayson Brooks
Your degree qualifies you to work "Industrial psychology"/"Human Resources" type jobs so apply to that. The bank job could have been pretty cool too.
Owen Bailey
I would rather kill myself than become a teacher desu.
Nice dubs. Yeah. I can't believe i've done this shit to myself. I have no idea what the fuck to do. I'm a literal retard who had no direction and just chose a degree because le parents want u to go to college.
I'm fucked.
I don't want to go back. I can't go back There is no other option than to go forward.
Literally no hope. I'm not sure what the fuck I am doing with my life. Fuck this shit
Yeah he could easily land a tech recruiter or hr job if he wants to start at the bottom and work commission.
Jaxson Campbell
I earn $3k a month programming from ”home”. That means I can go wherever I want and still get paid for contributing a few lines of code monthly to the startup Couple this with the fact that I already own a house
tech salaries are collapsing right now because of recession. Stop spreading memes from 2015.
Brody Davis
I don't dispute that, but they ARE still up there.
Jackson Perez
How long did it take to become a programmer?
Easton Howard
You’re only 22. Grow a pair and get a fucking skill. You’ll thank us.
Connor Hernandez
I don't know what is more retarded, the fact that you got a degree in psychology without pursuing a doctorate or the fact the new guy has a CS degree and only makes 45k
I majored in psych and got an cushy hr job after college. Only make 40k but I’m better off than 80% of my peers
Jack Bailey
to be fair nearly 30% of cs grads are underemployed, which is still far better than most degrees (even stem)
Luke Williams
What age are you now? I want to be making 50k to be happy. >get a fucking skill I am in the top 5% of chess players of all time out of lichess rankings (2200 elo). I'm a fucking autist. I should have dedicated my time to programming or some other shit other than chess, video games and iq tests.
Parker Sanders
>How long did the programming take to learn 20hrs per week for 12 months would be decent
start with his javascript course, then nodejs, then react (ignore graphql for now)
Brody White
>$45k/year So she left a fuck up (You) for another fuck up. If you go to four years of school and your first job is any less than $60k your degree is either useless or you're a fucking failure. If I'm making any less than $90k in another year I'll know I fucked up too.
Graduated at 22. 25 now. Sr HR reps make 50k that’s about 3 years experience. One of the best parts is after a few years experience you pretty much work for any company in any part of the country you want since all major companies have an HR department
Liam Harris
You’re making excuses dude. It’s not our fault you majored in psych. Again, you’re only 22. This situation is only going to get worse as you get older. Don’t fuck around.
Adrian Wright
Companies like google will hire selftaught programmers. Learn to code.Dont be like the journos
Elijah Flores
>I should have dedicated my time to programming or some other shit other than chess
I know that feel, im 23, honestly it isn't that late to start, the main issue with programming is knowing the right stack to learn to land a specific job, since if you learn for fun you may end with non-related programming skills rather than a full stack that would land yourself a job, it would be helpful if someone could lend me a hand in this too since i don't know what to learn or what choices i have
Michael Wilson
Oh I see. Granted your currency is worth more, I don't understand how you work for so much less and are simultaneously taxed two or three times as high as anyone in USA.
Levi Ross
why do psychology without a plan? I mean why not become a psychotherapist? You will have a good salary, guaranteed and interesting career, and it is actually the least likely (of them all) job to ever be automated
Why not do this instead of becoming some average code monkey competing with literally the entire world for shit work?
Jeremiah Morris
What the fuck are you talking about? Trained therapists are in super high demand. It's also one of the few jobs that are completely safe for automation because of the social factor involved. Psychology is literally a home run of you go the mental health route, especially men are in high demand. You just have fucked up something there user... What is it?
Did you pick social psychology and a major or some shit?
Dylan Green
Invest in some gems that ll give huge profit and start a small business with it take some gems like UDOO for example
Liam Gomez
because no employer outside the US is willing to pay so insane salaries for coding work. If you want to make money in Europe/Asia you have to be a finance chad, pilot, or some kind of doctor
Wyatt Evans
Dude just get a work visa lmao
Xavier White
udemy has pretty decent courses if you know which instructor to look for. stephen grider and andrew mead are both great
just keep doing tutorials and read articles sooner or later something will click
Ian Morales
Seriously this. Ignore the fact that most psych grads are retarded women, the world is in the middle of a psychological war. The biggest companies in the world make money by getting you addicted to their apps. Democracy is a game played by manipulating as many voters as you can. Get a masters or some credential that puts you above the typical psych thot, then actually get good by reading people like Cialdini and experimenting yourself. Eventually launch your own Cambridge Analytica or just work for them.
Landon Adams
No just pure psychology. I'm so fucking sick and tired of working some shitty wageslave job. I'm desperate for cash. I didn't know it would take this fucking long.
I need to find a job in psychology that won't take another 4 years of college to be starting on 50k euro.
Gabriel Williams
I'm working in fraud rn. I got a finance degree. The idiots I work with all got com or other dumb degrees. I took this job because manager basically lies about what I would be doing on the interview. I'm already trying to bail. At least it's easy.
But to answer your question it leads nowhere and is really only something you should do while you look for something else
John King
thing is i already know programming because i used to be an scripter for some video games in C++, skyrim papyrus and LUA, so i know the basics, i just need to know what languages i should research and that's where i get confused
Josiah Bailey
too add on, if you're unsure of what stack to learn just go with MERN or MEVN since you can use just javascript for the entire stack
Cameron Foster
This is actually true OP. I have an interview Wednesday for a private contract training machine learning algorithms for use in client technical support. Demonstrate some academic competence and you could definitely pick up some consulting work.
Jackson Morgan
Thanks for your reply. Yes, the recruiter seemed desperate to have me which was a red flag at the get go. It seemed to good to be true as well.
I think I might become an industrial psychologist since that's where all the fucking money is in psychology.
Get a masters degree is the first protocol
Caleb Morgan
>What the fuck are you talking about? Trained therapists are in super high demand. It's also one of the few jobs that are completely safe for automation because of the social factor involved. Psychology is literally a home run of you go the mental health route, especially men are in high demand. You just have fucked up something there user... What is it? this
finish college and become a therapist or some other in demand psychology occupation and enjoy one of the more rewarding careers while easily making way more than 50k.
If you only want money become a pilot, get 1500hrs on a jet (1-3 years of flying) and go work in China for a 300k USD net salary. The downside is that you have to be a pilot for a Chinese airline.
Ian Turner
What recession? It definitely isn't affecting any tech salaries I've seen. In big tech right now and we can't find competent devs anywhere, we also pay far above the industry average.
Angel Hughes
thanks that was just what i needed, thanks a lot, really appreciated
Jace Gonzalez
This is a lie.
Julian Ortiz
>1500hrs at massive expense >practically automated anyway >almost certain to be barred by CCP once there are enough Chinese pilots
Risk reward isn't good on that one. Plus you'll get cancer from being above the atmosphere so long.
Brayden Reed
>quit college, was doing dentistry. You fucked up.
Nicholas Richardson
Get your PhD or teach high school psychology. It isn’t that hard...
Juan Morales
>Pilot He’ll need 40-50k cash (if American, 100k+ for others) and about five years to even qualify for a Chinese RJ job... not to mention most of those jobs require an airbus/Boeing type rating and the astronaut medical to fly for a Chinese airline
Hudson Gonzalez
>Computer science >Makes 45k a year
where did he go to school? the trash bin, am i right fellas....
Not to mention becoming a pilot is not the easiest way to make money at all
Landon Roberts
you are missing the fact that pilot school is free or almost free in Europe. Type rating will also be free with a bond to the airline that you work for or you can pay it off if you leave before. You do not need five years to qualify for all of those jobs. In fact, I could probably complete pilot school + type rating + get 1500 hours in less than 4 years in my country. However, you are correct about the medical and the risks
Thomas Wright
How do zoomies live on such little money? Are you doing gay stuff online for pay? I have to assume all zoomies are gay for pay the way they look and act.
maybe not, but it is one of the most straightforward and best paths for "money" in Europe. Of course, you should absolutely not do it only for money (you will probably not even get through the extremely difficult selection process for pilot school)
Brayden Powell
>Pilot school is free in Europe Lol no... it will cost up to 80k Euros unless you’re lucky enough to get into a cadet program. >1500 hours That’s only in America, which is a closed shop
lol yup. One of the dude's gf's at my place was a dentist, he had to go through "Gate B" when visiting her place.
House was almost a fucking mansion.
Jeremiah Clark
As an applied maths undergrad, fucking lol at your life broh
Dominic Carter
>Lol no... it will cost up to 80k Euros unless you’re lucky enough to get into a cadet program. Yeah, I was referring to the cadet programs. Many major airlines have them in Europe. It would not make financial sense to go any other route here. But yeah, they are not easy to get into.
>That’s only in America, which is a closed shop How so? Most airlines globally are looking for this as a minimum requirement if you are looking to switch jobs. It is also when frozen ATPL gets unfrozen IIRC. However, looking at the jobs posted now most seem to have at least 3000 hours requirement for captain. I have seen lower than that previously
35 year old here. I have my high school diploma and I've been making 120k a year for like 5 years now. Poor people who actually go to school until they are well into their 20s and make a shit wage with 100k in debt. Lol
Wyatt Brown
>35 year old
your life is already gone old man
Jordan Roberts
My daughter has a psych degree and after three years as a uniformed police officer, she's eligible to become a sex victims detective when there is an opening after a coming retirement next Spring. She enjoys her work, just depends what you do with yourself.
Ayden Russell
Why not sometbing that involves programing shitcoins?
Anthony Watson
>she's eligible to become a sex victims detective Hot
Luke Bell
ya should have gotten grades with such an easy major.
C's for degrees is for literal retards. It's extremely hard outside of some vanishingly small areas to get a good career without graduate/professional school - both of which require fairly high grades.
I have your degree, graduated with a 3.9, and now am in a medical field getting paid low six figures.
Your problem isn't the degree so much as what you decided to do with it, which is shit all I'd imagine.
Jacob Nguyen
Go to law school. I'm actually not joking. I don't have any undergrad debt because my dad paid for my shitty meme degree (journalism), but if you're not a brainlet then you can do well enough on the LSAT that a college will pay for 2/3 of your tuition at the very least. You'll be able to take out a federal loan of around 20k per year and live off that while you go to school.
Blake Nguyen
>Law school Don’t lawyers make like 60k unless they get a job in biglaw, which is like having two full time jobs paying 80k?
Chase Gonzalez
One of my friends studied psychology and got trained by Jewel to be a regional manager right out of undergrad. Makes 90K a year now, and he'll prob make more if he goes back for an MBA.
Dont look for opportunities in psychology unless you have a PhD. Look into banking, corporate, oil & gas, railroad, etc... Go where the money is.
Bentley Johnson
Law school is all about prestige, if you can go to a top 14, why not.
Sebastian Campbell
Dat u faceberg?
Parker Gray
programming jobs without a degree or even with a degree are incredibly hard to get in this day and age. the market is flooded
Connor Hall
did you sleep with any 18 year olds
Thomas Campbell
DO NOT DO PROGRAMMING. MARKET IS FLOODED WITH PAJEETS WHO COME TO USA AND DO THE JOB FOR 50% LESS PAY. THE MARKET IS FLOODED.
Caleb Davis
>lichess 2200 That is not something to boast about mr. not-even-cm. Imagine being below baby's meme title and thinking you are special.
Evan Bell
Everyone in here under 25 talking about it being "too late", I was you, I'm fucking 29 now faggots and that mindset has landed me in a position where I still haven't pushed myself into programming despite having always been technically skilled in debugging, OS optimization, building computers, etc.
Realize how fucking retarded you are for thinking you are old or too late and get busy or enjoy being me in literally the blink of an eye. Time flies and I am paying a heavy price for it. I even have friend making 100k+ who told me to just study c#/.net for a few months and they could give me part time work doing UI for 420/hr, remote - your impostor syndrome and procrastination will literally destroy all of your time and potential that you're afraid has already passed. I'm still trying to will myself into getting some Net+, Sec+ certs or learning a development stack, but inertia only become stronger the longer you steep in it. Wake the fuck up guys, you're going to fucking die some day, rich or poor, you're dead meat in waiting.
Carson Martinez
There are good jobs that still exist which don't require a degree. I went for Psych too mostly because I was interested in it and had no idea what to do with my life. I just got a job at a casino making $40-45k starting. They provided all the training. I see people in this thread calling psychology a meme degree but in my experience college as a whole is a meme. Get creative, go to job fairs, and relocate if you have to.
Nicholas Phillips
You're a retard. Just get a job doing anything at corpo and prove your worth, they hire from within and promotion rates for college grads in anything are like 400% what normal people get.
Chase Thompson
>I even have friend making 100k+ who told me to just study c#/.net for a few months and they could give me part time work doing UI for 420/hr Maybe it's possible he could make that happen, but I don't think a few months of C# could get most people a job. I look at places like indeed or craig lists at programming jobs, front end, back end, sql, etc. And they all want AT LEAST 3 years of experience or a degree and a year+ of experience. I'm not even sure a cert would be enough.
Blake Martin
>3+ years experience It's a meme to weed out people who are afraid to apply. This is well known among pretty much everyone in the industry.
I put on an indeed resume that I had like a month of experience doing IT work and was offered a Network Operations job starting at $20 an hour with nothing but upward mobility if you're not a retard. Also, simply doing UI work is slightly more advanced than doing HTML in notepad, don't kid yourself - it can be learned in a few weeks if you have any aptitude or self discipline.
Jose Sanchez
This. Actual job experience is the only thing that REALLY matters for most places from what I've seen. Degrees and other shit is just extra.
Carson Martin
Where do I start? That Udemy stuff posted earlier?
Juan Hughes
>learn to code there it is
Nathaniel Gonzalez
t. someone who has a CS degree but 0 experience outside of that
Jace Russell
As someone who is 32 and working in the food service industry, 50% of pay is still above my pay.
Caleb Baker
Honestly, start by doing shit yourself. If you get in this loop of having to ask for every instruction from where to start, what to make, who to ask what, where to apply, you will never actually do anything. You can literally start anywhere, all that matters is that you start and keep going. It is only a meme if you are too stupid to build things.
