SULAIMANI – One soldier was killed, while two others were seriously injured in an explosion from unexploded ordinance in western Anbar, a security source said on Friday (June 29).
Speaking to Almaalomah website, a source from Anbar Operations Command said, “a bomb, from the remnants of the Islamic State war, went off as army forces were carrying out an operation in the area around Rutba, near the borders between Iraq and Syria in the western part of of Anbar. A soldier died immediately, while two others were seriously injured. They were taken to hospital for treatment.”
The army “closed all the roads leading to the blast spot fearing furthers explosions,” the source said, adding that “several regions on the border with Syria still endanger military forces due to the presence of war remnants,” according to Iraqi News.
