Basically, where you made the mistake, from my (admittedly dated) understanding of East Asian culture, is that you started behaving like a friend rather than a teacher, and you're supposed to have a much more rigid distinction between those two roles in real life.
Honestly, I'd try to approach it casually through the mentor, kind of how I said: Don't wanna get the girl in trouble, she was complaining about bullying, let her talk to you, think she's forgetting that you're a teacher, what's the right thing to do? I'll tell you what I think as an attorney from a disaster planning point of view: it's a good idea to get some independent corroboration, even if it's secondhand, laid in place BEFORE anyone sounds any alarms. That is, if someone says something, if during an investigation the principal or someone else talks to the mentor later, the mentor can honestly say you came to him concerned about the student being bullied some time before. I mean, it's unquestionable you've talked to the girl, there are witnesses; but that you've talked to someone else about it would be in your favor *just in case*.
And if you're doing something wrong right now, better to get it nipped in the bud.

They can be very manipulative. When I was 24 the younger sister of a female friend of mine started going out with our group a few times. I'm a new teacher, here let me weigh in: Find out your personality as a teacher and stick to it. Let me forewarn you, if your young doing the whole "I am an adult I demand respect" thing doesn't work so of the things you may want to do. Don't do that. You will never demand their respect when you can be their older brother.
Now in terms of general situation, there could be two things going on with the student. She might feel bullied and feel like you're a safe-haven, not sure how Japan looks on that but here stateside thats something to be cherished in the American culture of nurturing. One of the best suggestions I can make to address that is know your administrators and have a good working relationship with them. They can alleviate a lot of these issues for you, by making them aware of the situation as its ongoing. But regardless people can go on witchhunts and take a teacher out. The profession is sorefully underpaid across the board, even if the benefits are alright for the amount of stress, workload, and chance of losing your job because the school district doesnt want to litigate a law suit.
