Parents going through massive economic problems due to my dads company going bankrupt

>parents going through massive economic problems due to my dads company going bankrupt
>both have worked in the petroleum industry all their life
>they've both been unemployed for 3 years now because there's no work due to oil prices being so low for so long, they've had to sell the house to cover losses and to have money to live on but savings are drying up.
>I think my dad's starting to get depressed and it breaks my heart

>I'm currently studying applied mathematics which takes up about 60-70 hours a week
>have a part time job working as much as I have time for but with my study load it's not that many hours a week
>Also rent in my city (and prices in general) are through the fucking roof and my student loans don't even cover rent, I'm already living with 9 other people to try to get my rent down as much as possible
>Am constantly on the verge of being broke (right now I have about $50 in my bank account and I won't get paid for another 2 weeks)
>can't afford to wash clothes right now because detergent is so fucking expensive
>I'm living on rice, beans and the cheapest, shittiest meat I can find.

How the fuck can I get out of this rut? I've tried getting a higher-paying part-time job with no success. My parents can't help me financially, obviously. I've never had mental problems but recently I've started having mini-panic attacks almost every day where I feel like I can't breathe for several minutes until it goes over. I can't keep living like this, so if anyone has any tips I'd really appreciate it. I've been trying to make some software in the little spare time I have to hopefully make some money but considering I can only get in about 30-60 minutes a day of working on that it's going really slow and I'm not really getting anywhere in that regard.

Idk if anyone have any advice I'd really appreciate it
I am considering dropping out of uni to work full time but I'm in a really prestigious uni and if I drop out I might not get to go back.

I can't stress it enough how clutch being an uber driver is. You can keep your other job and go to school all the while filing useless hours with chilling in your car driving people for a couple hours for some quick cash

I wish I could do this but I don't have a car

fuck you and your stupid oil money family.
you all honestly deserve all thats coming to you. its fucking karma for fucking up the eartht and being greedy fucks. i bet you all lived lavishly and now you cant make money so we are all supposed to sympathize with you cus you cant afford all the luxuries you once had?

fucking wash your clothes with water and handsoap in the sink or rub faggot.

learn to cook better food. theres nothing wrong with beans and rice and eggs.

seriously, ^ thats all th advice im gonna give.. i hope you all die desu

student grants, apply for scholarships, financial assistance. Since your parents are unemployed, you're technically part of a low-income family. Should be some loans or something you can apply for. In Ontario, they literally throw thousands of dollars at you i you're attending University. I got a 6k grant for this year of studies, with a 4k loan on top.

stop driving cars you fucking idiots

why the fuck are his parents even unemployed? cant work unless its an oil job? LOL

> inb4 suck dicks

why don't you stick your fingers in a blender, you sour fuck.

OP, deal with your panic attacks first if you're unable to deal with financial problems. Your mental health is just as important as your other issues.

I remember you from yesterday

this, but without the edgy shit
there's no way your parents didn't know how volatile the oil industry could be, and that a $140/barrel was never going to last, they should've been saving instead of pissing away their money like high school dropout roughneck
you also should've known better than to go to an outrageously expensive school on loans that can't sustain you for a degree that's going to be worthless

if you want advice here it is; stop living like a rich person because you're not anymore. tell your parents to get a real job and move into a tiny ass apartment in a shitty neighborhood and then move in with them and finish your degree at a local community college. welcome to the 99%.

Ok, I'll bite

>its fucking karma for fucking up the eartht and being greedy fucks
while it is true that oil pollutes the earth, it's also true that every single human being pollutes just by being alive. Food, clothes, water; all the things we need pollutes somehow. Also, if it wasn't for oil you wouldn't have modern medicine. Petrochemistry makes synthesising new medicines possible. So if you've ever had to use any medicine ever you're just as "bad" as me and every other person out there. Of course I'm convinced you didn't know or though about that

>being greedy fucks

My family has donated to poor children living on the street for almost 30 years. Also we were never that rich desu. Nowhere near millionaires.

>i bet you all lived lavishly
nope

>fucking wash your clothes with water and handsoap in the sink or rub faggot.
that would steal time from me working

>learn to cook better food
I'm already cooking everything, why did you get the impression I wasn't? I said I'm living on rice, beans and trash meat, why the fuck would I waste money on not cooking it myself?

>i hope you all die
Likewise, you illiterate fuck

Hey man, I feel for you because sometimes the world just collapses beneath your feet and there's nothing you can do to stop it from happening. But if you have no money and have already cut every possible expense (I mean every - phone bill included) and it still isn't enough, you either need to apply for grants/scholarships/assistance or put schooling on a hiatus. There's really no way to make quick money - if there was, nobody would be poor.

>they should've been saving
They did, but a lot of money was lost from trying to keep the business afloat. Also they've been living on savings for 3 years now, at some point it dries up no matter how much you've saved.

>you also should've known better than to go to an outrageously expensive school on loans that can't sustain you for a degree that's going to be worthless
Being able to create advanced mathematical models is one of the most lucrative professions there are. I don't think you know what you're talking about in that regard. Anyways, my school is prestigious but not really that expensive, I'm not in the US.

>stop living like a rich person because you're not anymore
we were never that rich, upper middle class at best, and I'm not living like a rich person by any means.

>tell your parents to get a real job
they're trying but their expertise is really specialised and they're both over 60 so there's not a whole lot of people wanting to hire them.

>move into a tiny ass apartment in a shitty neighborhood and then move in with them and finish your degree at a local community college.
Yeah I might do this, although not finishing my degree at my current uni might hamper my earning potential for decades to come which is why I'm hesitant.

Forgot to mention stop using the internet recreationally. If this degree and careers is really everything to you, and you enjoy it regardless of the money, you will focus all of your energy into making it possible even if your life is completely dull for a few years.

yeah I'm rarely online for fun anymore. This is the first time i've been on Jow Forums for months. I'm typically working from when I wake up to when I go to bed. I haven't checked my youtube subscriptions in over a year.

I have applied but gotten rejected every time because I don't have a perfect 4.0 GPA. That's the only way I can get grants and scholarships where I live. Also I can't get assistance because I have a part time job.

I've always been a hardy guy and I guess I'm having trouble accepting that my mental health is suffering. It's just that I don't feel like I can afford spending time not being directly productive, and can't afford lower grades or less time at work to "deal with my emotions" or whatever

> excuses
If they've been in business longer than 10 years they should've been able to retire. The years leading up to the crash were bringing record breaking profits for everyone.

> muh modeling
lol a math degree is completely worthless without specific industry experience. it's as laughable as a "business" degree. also, you should've used your "advanced modeling" abilities to make a budget that doesn't rely on your mummy giving you an allowance.

> im not living like a rich person
except for the part where you went to a school you cant afford unless you live with 9 other people and take handouts from your parents

> both over 60
LMAO, are your serious?? They should've had RETIREMENT savings and a paid off house by that age. Instead they bought a house THEY couldn't afford, sent their kid to a school HE couldn't afford, and donated money THEY NEVER HAD instead of paying down their debts.

He isn't his parents dude

No he's not, and that's what HE needs to understand. His parents were beyond retarded, and he needs to understand it's not his problem to fix.
I'm also sick of hearing kids complain about expensive schools for their useless degrees all the fucking time, when it's their fucking CHOICE. Cheap community colleges and trade schools exist, they're just too arrogant to go there.

You didn't have a parent pushing you towards an expensive 4 year school then. Mine wanted to apply to Dartmouth (as a fucking wh*te male)

When you grow up with parents that you perceive to be successful, especially as an only child, you don't realize that they don't always know what's best because all you can see is that there's food on table, vacations every year and toys in the toy chest. Only after I left for college did I realize how fallible my parents really were, and I had no opportunity for that insight at any other point growing up.

So no, you don't innately "know better" about going to community college when a pair of seemingly perfect people tell you that they know the best way you will succeed.

>If they've been in business longer than 10 years they should've been able to retire. The years leading up to the crash were bringing record breaking profits for everyone.
Yeah I'm not saying my parents were perfect with money. I'm saying they saved a reasonable amount and that the crash was worse and more drawn-out than anyone would've thought. What are you gonna call Elon Musk a fucking idiot too for almost going bankrupt back in 08? I mean are you truly, clinically autistic insofar as you literally cannot comprehend why or how people don't always make the perfect decisions?

>lol a math degree is completely worthless without specific industry experience. it's as laughable as a "business" degree
Categorically false. On which grounds are you making this claim? What is your education, and in what field do you work? Actually never mind, you're obviously just gonna LARP about being a 25 year old investment banker earning $1M a year

>you should've used your "advanced modeling" abilities to make a budget that doesn't rely on your mummy giving you an allowance.
I don't think you even understood what I was saying. I'm already down to bare minimums and it's still not cutting it, do you not think I budget? Are you dense?

>except for the part where you went to a school you cant afford unless you live with 9 other people and take handouts from your parents
Tuition fees aren't the main problem, it's rent because my city is expensive as fuck. If you'd read the thread you would've known. That being said, if you're the same guy as I'll give you a pass because your reading and writing is clearly not at the levels you would expect from a normal, well-adjusted adult.

>LMAO, are your serious?? They should've had RETIREMENT savings and a paid off house by that age. Instead they bought a house THEY couldn't afford, sent their kid to a school HE couldn't afford, and donated money THEY NEVER HAD instead of paying down their debts.
see my first point.

oil sucks, period. i know all about the shit you think i dont know about. youre just desperately rationalizing lol

who gives a fuck if the donated.

learn to wash you clothes by hand. do a little at a time. it wont take your precious little time away.

i said eat EGGS. meat, even shitty trash meat is still more expensive than eggs you fucking idiot.

im really curious what kind of career you have in mind for after you finish school.
also, stop working on that stupid software idea and focus on taking better care of yourself and your situation

> More drawn-out than anyone would've thought
I honestly can't believe you're this stupid. Oil pays well precisely because it's an incredibly volatile industry. These types of booms and busts happened way too many times already for anyone to not know this. And your parents aren't Elon Musk, they're at fucking retirement age and they should've retired instead of throwing every penny they had into a sinking ship.

> On what grounds?
On the fact that every math major I know is either employed in a different field, a researcher/teacher, or not employed at all

> what is your education/field
I did CS and ive been working at one of the top upstream oil companies for the last 5 years actually

> do you not think i budget?
> my city is expensive as fuck
i don't think you know how budgeting works
here's a hint; stop living in expensive cities you can't afford you fucking retard

Bro, you and your family fucked up. Your in a bad situation asking help on Chinese picture posting site. There are some major mistakes you have to owe up to in order to get out of your shit together.

You might need to drop out of school if you are in such bad mental and physical state with no recovery/support. You might actually break your psyche. If you refuse to give up, then just deal with the suck and try to apply for food stamps, welfare checks, or two part time jobs while not sleeping.

You fucked up, and so did your parents. Owe up to it or burn in your own self righteousness.

> That being said, if you're the same guy as # I'll give you a pass because your reading and writing is clearly not at the levels you would expect from a normal, well-adjusted adult.
I’m so tired of scholastically educated men discounting the opinions (and advice!) of people who refuse to or cannot conform to the grammar dictated by other white men. You are on this board asking people to help you come up with ways to either live more frugally or change your life to better fit your new financial means. Rather than address the merits of that poster’s arguments and advice you choose to ridicule them based on their lack of punctuation as far as i can tell. They seem pretty fucking literate. If you arent ready to buckle down and listen to advice from people who have been living as poor people their whole lives, then all you are doing is coming in here to complain in search of sympathy. Many of us have no patience or sympathy for fuckers like you. You are clearly an entitled person who believed they inherently deserve an easy life, an affordable higher education, and all for what? So that you can continue the capatalisric crusade of oppression for your own comfort.

the reality is that you are living beyond your means. you think you deserve whatever you want. you think you have it hard, but you are richer and better fed than sooo many humans. you need to move to a cheaper town and go to a school you can afford. boom. problem solved.
