Mathematically, most guys' looks are have to be "average", but the average for men is much lower than it is for women. It's like majority of a class failing a test. It doesn't make it any better that the average score was 40%. It's still a failing grade. It doesn't have to be this way.

To an extent, it's inevitable that women have higher standards and men have lower, because the risks of reproduction have been very different, for the entirety of human existence (although the gap is closing). However, women, overall, put far more effort into their appearance than men. Skin care, fashion, hair-styling, and even make-up are things most women use/do/have studied that men can start doing too. It seems like some white/Asian guys are pasty fucking white. You don't need to be orange, but please get some fucking sun. You look ill. In terms of online dating, women are also overall better at knowing their most flattering angles and tend to use well-lit, somewhat professional-looking pictures. A lot of guys don't. This shit's important.
