How can I get smarter, fit?

How can I get smarter, fit?
I'm 19 and next month I'm writing my final exams.

Ever since I remember I never did well enough in school, and when I did, my mum usually helped me with my schoolwork.

I don't know how I can do it. My main desire is to be good at maths. The advanced high school maths that I don't even know the terms for in English.
What can I do?

I'm literally depressed because of this.
Thanks

Read a book you lazy fuck. Knowledge doesn't fall from the sky

I know it doesn't. Anything else? I'm mainly talking about math intelligence(or whatever one calls it).

Come on kid, that ain't hard to figure out yourself. If you can search for weird porn on the net for 2 hours then you can also find ways how to learn maths by typing it into google

I guess you're right. Most of the times I resorted to that I found meme bullshit that doesn't work.

I'd like to know why some things are the way they are, not just mindlessly remembering things.

Learning is an ever ongoing process and since you don't learn for school but yourself it's not mindless remembering but trying to understand things but in your own pace and with your own preferences on how to approach a subject.

Thanks, anyone else?

Practise practise, practise.

You'll begin to see patterns in the sums.

From there on, it's easy

Thanks very much.

Drink water and eat healthy do those puzzles. Exercise is good for your mind. Other than that spend time reading about and researching your subject of interest. If there's a college nearby, go to any events or lectures on the subject, ie engineering, science, math
I bet online has stuff.

Thanks

Bump

I'm doing maths exercises right now and I want to fucking die. I am certain I'll fail the final exam which is 20 days from now

Fucking bump.

I don't think I'll go to university

You can do it, user.

Think outside the box. You mentioned school, and the current US School system forces you to think outside the box. Yes, you'll get shit on for being different.

But sometimes I think I have no ideas constantly too.

I hope so

I'm not in the states

Honestly, tell me why I'm such a moron.

I had a problem with maths ever since I was in the 1st class of liceum(3rd and last now). I'm not one of these people to get determined when shit goes bad, I simply don't do said thing. So naturally I didn't do maths.

Now I guess I'm paying the price.

this is adv not fit. Maybe try reading a little more.

Oh yea, it's not. Sorry, I was tired.

Thanks

Bump

Bumpo

You can't really get smarter. If you're a dumb shit that won't really change. But you could be a skinny dumbshit instead of a fat dumbshit. Which is better than being a smart fatshit anyway.

If you want to get good at math there's no way around practice. When you first started lifting did you expect to bench 300 lbs? Start small, if it has to be prealgebra then start there and work your way up. That's what I did and I've taken courses up to differential equations. Just have grit.

Thanks very much.

How long would it take for me to start over from the basics? Let's say, 1-2 hours daily?

did you used to post on /nsunsg/?

Nope, can you post a link to tbe thread?

no, it doesn't exist any more. You just remind me of a guy who used to go there.

Right, on which board was that?

The more you learn the more you can progress. It's a bit like having puzzle pieces, you need to find a bunch before you feel like you can easily connect things.

If you look around on google or /sci or anywhere you'll find recommended books, online videos etc. You can also read your countries education syllabus to find things you might want to look into.

In general Khan Academy covers the stuff in US high school, A-Levels (more international) go a year or two beyond that, and Cambridge has it's own special thing. This lower education part is about learning the rules of the language, advanced maths is about theory reading and creativity. Obviously start at the beginning and see if you can "get" each concept.

/vg/ - it was general for a Naruto game a couple years back

Anything is okay if you can do basics of your school subjects
but i have fucking annoying thing I CAN'T DO MATH
trying almost everyday and you know my brain can't get it at all

If you are able to do 1-2 hours daily you'll be amazed at the results in even a month, let alone a year. It took me about 2 and a half years to get from prealgebra to differential equations, but I wasn't doing 1-2 hours every day.

Work lots of problems. Repeat.

Thanks

Right, I never was interested in reading about video games honestly, don't know why.

I'm slowly getting better mate, but it's too late for me.
16 days left until my final exams.

My biggest problem was not learning at the beginning.
1st year of school I was depressed because of not being able to cope with all the school work. Because of that I neglected everything.

2nd year I was depressed because of a girl. Same thing as in 1st year as well. I was jealous that some could know maths better than me.

3rd current year and I've come to realise I probably won't do as well as I hope.
I can always try again next year.

I'm taking a gap year, during which I'd like to get myself ready physically and mentally(for an officer's accademy) and fix up my math abilities.

I probably think this is the best way to go.
Theoretical shit is important too, I guess.

Good luck then
remeber if you have basics it's not too late
the worst may be not to have or not to want

Yes, you're right. I think I should refresh my basic math abilites and just go over it again. I'm sure it'd be easier, since all math topics and different parts of it are all related, right?

you know just do what you really think is important in your way of study
if you really think you do not get *for example* any topic you're working at - then open some sources with information
i will have exams next year btw have to prepare too!

Read. Create. Listen. Observe. Repeat.

Read: Read books - fiction and non-fiction. Torrent you a few gigabytes of ebooks related to education and some of fictional imagination broadening stories.

Create: Create art, objects, etc... Build yourself some furniture. Work on a vehicle. Get a paint brush and create something. Learn new shit that may or may not be of value in the near future. Just stimulate your mind with these projects.

Listen: Listen, but do not absorb everything you hear. Go to events involving speakers who are proficient in a particular field. Listen to podcasts that educate. Download a language learning app that provides audio feedback. Listen to your elders and the youngsters. Surprisingly, some younglings know more about a particular shit than you may know because they were expose to said "shit".

Observe: Don't only see, observe, Watson. Be aware of your surroundings and try to teach yourself to take notice of what goes on around you. You make consider yourself one who has great self-awareness, but when you walk into a store or restaurant - how many people are wearing hats? Play "KIMS GAME". These are things that may seem futile, but it teaches you to observe certain cues that may potentially save your life. Also, go to museums and new locations and just take everything in and then extrapolate your own ideas.

Repeat: Keep this up and whatever the other user's encourage you to do, do it over and over. Keep it up and you should realize later in time the difference in intellect. Hell, the increase in intellect may even boost your confidence - just don't become overconfident. Nobody likes a pompous ass.

I forgot to add.

KhanAcademy is a GREAT free site that provides valuable information on subjects you may not have properly absorbed during your childhood.

I suggest you start now, I fucked away most of my school life on petty bullshit.

Thank you very much.

Something nobody has mentioned yet.
Question everything. I am not talking about tinfoil theories. If you want to know how something works ask yourself questions about it, and answer them.
Yes, logic reasoning is a big part of being "smart" and it starts from asking questions. If you know how something works, it's principle might help you with figuring out something later, faster. Bring your inner child once again, like you would be nagging to your parents how the most mundane shit functions, just do it. Don't satisfy yourself, knowing that something works, ask yourself HOW it works.

user, for someone like yourself seeking knowledge at 19, you are already intelligent in my book. I wish I started this "mental" journey at your age. I regret it deeply, but I am so glad that you are willing to start that now. Good luck, user. I hope you stick to your guns even with it seems like it's not going anywhere. I believe in you, bro, whoever you are.

Intelligence is largely genetic. Do you think top mathematicians that work at universities or at some government agency got to where they are only by practicing problems? they found on Khan Academy? Does not work like that.

The good news is that if you have at least average intelligence you can get better through practicing intensely. Hire someone to help you or go to your professors office hours. If you have 1 month you need to be practicing at least 2-4 hours a day. Break 10-15 minutes after every hour or so.

I second this, user. If there is one thing I learn from watching George Carlin and Richard Pryor as a child, it's to question EVERYTHING. This may seem like unnecessary and blatantly obvious advice, but a LOT of people just seem to choose ignorance rather than curiosity because it's "easier" I suppose.

I don't think OP's intention are to become a "top mathematician". My advice of reading and visiting KhanAcademy was to encourage OP to learn - that's it. Don't be a pompous and ignorant ass.

Try mathsisfun.com/algebra/index-pre-algebra.html or wherever you are.
When you get frustrated take a five minute break then get back at it.
Apply yourself.

>20 days

are you retarded? you can literally learn a few topics from scratch if you start 20 days in advance.
are you from austria btw
Thanks

Thank you very much, your words are really kind.

Best of luck on your journey as well, bro

Thanks

Honestly, I'd like to become one.

Thanks

I'm from Poland

Too bad you're a Gemini.
