IQ average cannot drop because it is a statistical measurement compared to the average. The average is always 100 even when objectively human intelligence decreases. There is no objective way of measuring increase or decrease of IQ trough history. Even IQ test by itself is extremely subjective because it depends more on the previous education of the individual not the inherited intelligence. One of the major debates in psychology recently is can you actually put a single number on intelligence or is it more complicated than it. It's been proven that if you prepare for an IQ exam by practicing their problems you will have significantly higher IQ, a trick many Mensa members do to get into the club

It doesn't drop 7 points per generation. Firstly because 100 IQ is the average by definition no matter how dumb or smart we get, and secondly because it just doesn't drop at all. People aren't getting dumber, it's bullshit science fiction from a comedy movie, why did you even take it seriously in the first place? Just take an IQ test from the 1950's and you'll see how much easier it is compared to a modern IQ test.

the movie is popular because it taps into the frustration of the educated working class. It reinforces what they feel to be true, that their responsible life choices about family size are not well rewarded compared to the unrestrained rates from uneducated low class families. It is dropping, either the test is harder (which is unconfirmed for the last 50 years) and the score is stable OR everybody is getting dumber. The article blames it on evironmental factors but it could be a bullshit explanation.
