Grew up in Hopkins. My old elementary school is a hmong immersion school now. I tried going to the Minnehaha falls to have a nice walk with my bf, and it was so diverse. I couldn't handle it and I started crying, because growing up you'd go there and not run into anybody for most of the trails minus the occasional white elderly couple. Yep. It used to be routine for my family and I to go during the winter/summer when my extended family would visit. But now we won't even go to the State Fair because it's gotten so bad in the cities. We're working on it, one in the oven right now. I wouldn't be opposed to having our children go to public school outside of the cities (if they want, when they get older at least), because outside of that 30 mile raidus of mini mogadishu, it's not horrible at all. I really don't want them to be forced to assimilate when they're younger and can't make as many decisions for themselves, however. It's not fair to children to put them all together in a literal prison for 7 hours a day and tell them to shut up and get along. No wonder our society is getting so tumultuous when public education cares more about progressive politics than actual education for our youth.
