Debt is value. The USD has value because it is the only way the Goverrnment can pay its debt to the Federal Reserve, a private company owned in secret. The larger the debt, the greater the value to the government. It is also valuable because it is still nominally the reserve currency. Other governments still keep USD as a measure of wealth and accept USD as payment for real goods. USD also has value for Americans because it is the only way to purchase food, pay banks, or pay your taxes.
All this distracts from the fact that the shit has no survival value, and its purchasing power gets smaller and smaller every year, and its originators are free to print off as much of it as they want, there is no physical check on its creation.
Because all currencies have a floating value against it rather than gold, and most currencies are now fiat.
This means if other countries reject the dollar and they are weighted against it they risk rejecting their own fiat currency.
