I am not very familiar with Javascript, and I've never even heard of Vue, so I'm certainly not qualified to say if the code is safe or not.

You don't have to install extensions you can download the files in dev mode, then use a crx extractor to just turn it into a zip.

You can literally get the extension from the webstore without downloading it and read it, and even diff it to see if it is modified from what is on the github.
