What what I should tell you, you dickhead, is that there was unprecedented unity under Christianity until the Reformation. The Pope was able to get European Kings to stop killing each-other over politics(because that's what a lot of it was back then, politics, religious wars were infrequent unless you were in Andalusia or Anatolia), and direct them to sack things off in the east. Sure, it didn't last, but the European price to effectively colonizing a far-off piece of land was relatively low in cost compared to literally taking a holy city of Islam.

Tribal wars were healthy competition among sons of mother Europe. It was mostly about resources. The losing tribe had to move to a different European land with less resources and harsher climate, which only made the losing tribe stronger.
