There's a fundamental difference here. Even if they can't trace their lineage directly to specific people or even cultures, they can still trace it to a wider "superculture". Kangz are literally claiming that they decended from a culture which emerged on the other side of the largest sand desert in the world from where they actually did. That point, however, is not terribly important. What is important, is the execution. Roman/Greek/Nordic/Pagan/Germanic/etc larpers value what those particular cultures did, and try to emulate them. Kangz simply declare themselves heirs to a kingdom that isn't theirs, without changing their behavior in the slightest. There's some similarities here, but you're comparing apples to oranges.
