If you mean that we need to be strongly rooted in the traditions of this country, the art of this country (both black and white), and the actual conditions of our existence (as opposed to the pretend images of the Yank media) I absolutely agree. If you mean we need to end the Liberal party's practice of tripling the number of temporary work visas created to allow the en-bloc, non-union importation of foreign workforces, then I agree. If you mean that we need to pay attention to our problems as they really exist, that we need to pay attention to integrating immigrants so they can organise with our unions and learn our ways in our communities - rather than ghettoising and being alienated from our culture like the bosses want - I agree.
If you mean that we should line up behind "our" upper-class and toe the line and wreck our unions and accept pay cuts in the name of "national productivity" and hate an Indian or a Lebbo or a Kurdish worker just because they got over here a few decades later, I don't agree. I don't have anything in common with Gina or Clive or Abbott or Turnbull or Morrison, and a nationalism that sees the people as the obedient collaborationist cattle of those cunts isn't worth having.

Unions like it when foreigners take over a work place and make it only for people of their own original nationality. Admittedly immigrants unionize better but they do so by excluding aussies from that work place. (Ever worked in a place where every one talks foreign gibber and won't talk to aussies?) I don't disagree too strongly with either of these points. Even the racial integration point is an opinion I have not because it gives me the warm fuzzies but because it's the only practical option today- you've gotta fight with the hand you've got, not the one you wish you had. You talk about white Australia but it's decades in the past now thanks to capitalist (including Labor under Hawker and Cheating) governments and control. The alternative to "try and break down the barriers through joint struggle" isn't "glorious white australia", it's "roll over and die while the bosses, Chinese and white, get fat together". The reason we're anti-racist isn't because we're like liberals and love having a diverse stable of brown pets, it's because our only hope is to reach out to our fellow man or we're all fucked.

I read the man from snowy river for the first time, not that long ago. Needless to say I was moved. I wondered why I had not heard of it before or had it read to me in primary school, or studied it in high school. I then read an article by someone, and I was shocked with opinion, that it was outdated, old-fashioned and irrelevant to the values of Australia, that there is too much focus on studying the man from snowy river in schools and that we need to base our modern values on something more relevant.
