I was a firefighter, and let me tell you they are a huge waste of money and should be defunded by a lot.
The entire job was a fucking cakewalk, and this is a big city, I can only imagine how easy it is in rural areas.
90% of the time was spent having fun and going to restaurants with the crew. We stayed in the station playing video games and watching movies and eating all the free pizza and donuts we could handle.
When we got bored there, the entire crew would pile into the firetruck and head to the nearest restaurant, with sirens blazing and speeding as if it was an emergency. But we were just going to a fucking restaurant LOL.
We ate at restaurants twice a day on average.
On the 10% of times we had a call, 45% of the time it was a false alarm ringing inside of an empty building, no fire. We then just turn off the alarm.
Other 45% was EMT calls (a firetruck must show up at all EMT situations for no actual reason). We were literally useless there. [cont]
you don't understand how the US healthcare system works. almost everyone who isn't a complete fuckup has health insurance. the hospital jews always send out ridiculously overpriced bills like this, and the health insurance jews negotiate the price wayyyyyy down. and then, health insurance ends up paying the majority of that. the patient usually has a maximum out of pocket limit of like $5000 and they won't have to pay any more.
the people who don't have insurance just don't pay the bills and either declare bankruptcy or more often just let the bills go to collections and ignore it because their credit is already fucked up. or if they are illegal squatemalans, they just give the hospital a fake name

Then the other 9% of the time was harassing people to stop burning leaves in their own yard. Then the other 1% of the time was an actual house fire, of which we never entered the house (if anyone was in there we literally let them burn to death, that was the policy. do not enter the house) and sprayed it with the hoses from outside. Ez peazy.

I was a firefighter for 2.5 years and the policy was do not enter. let them burn to death while we spray water from the outside. we don't save lives anymore. it's against the rules. too many firefighters were dying trying to save people inside who usually were already dead from the smoke and fire.
I never understood why people complain about healthcare in the US. I'm poor as fuck and even I have health insurance, in 2017 I got hit by a car while riding my motorcycle, I broke my foot and required surgery. I was in the hospital for about 9 hours getting operated on, the entire thing cost me $300 out of pocket
we were showed stats during training that said by the time firefighters reach a burning house, anyone inside is most of the time already long dead from smoke inhalation, and we were actually losing more firefighters by entering the house than we were even saving (as living people who weren't either already dead or died afterward because smoke inhalation of that level often kills you a few hours regardless)
Healthcare is socialized.

We're not against taxes or public services. We're against programs that are by their nature *redistribute* wealth. Which is what socialized healthcare does.
Imagine socialized car insurance. You pay for some fuckup who had 5 at-fault collisions, while yourself having spotless driving record.

New Zealand has free healthcare (though private healthcare operators also exist) we have lower tax rates than the USA, lower debt than the USA and better health outcomes per dollar expended on healthcare, we have one of the most free economies in the world (constantly vying to top position between Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong), we are most certainly not socialists, you can have state run healthcare without being socialist, NZ and Australia are proof, both of us have low taxes, low levels of govt involvement in the economy and both have free and private healthcare.
