Acting Pentagon chief denies US wants ‘cost-plus-50%’ from allies for bases Acting Pentagon chief Patrick Shanahan on Thursday denied reports that the US has a “cost-plus-50 percent” formula for allies to pay for the US military presence on their soil. Bloomberg reported earlier this week that President Donald Trump is pushing the formula as a basis for Germany, Japan and other allies. “We won’t do cost-plus-50 percent,” Shanahan told the Senate Armed Services Committee in a hearing. US partners should pay their “fair share” when they can, but there was no such business-like formula, AFP quoted him as saying. “We’re not going to run a business and we’re not going to run a charity,” Shanahan said. Since coming into office, Trump has warned US allies, especially in NATO and East Asia, to pay more for the US presence.

‘Hundreds surrender’ as ISIS loses ground in final Syria enclave – SDF Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) militants accompanied by relatives surrendered to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) by the hundreds on Thursday, the SDF said. It added that its fighters had made progress into the remaining IS-held part of the enclave in eastern Syrian near the Iraqi border. IS insurgents have been mounting a last-stand defense of the enclave at Baghouz, the final patch of IS territory that once spanned a third of Iraq and Syria and which has been besieged by the SDF for weeks, Reuters said. The jihadists had sought to counter-attack three times in two days, deploying more than 20 suicide bombers, according to the SDF. No IS leaders are believed to be in Baghouz, a US defense official said.

>'How to spot a Jew': Front-page headline in Polish paper openly sold in parliament sparks fury
Shocked Polish lawmaker discovered that the newsstand in the nation's parliament offered a newspaper with instructions on how to spot Jews by name and face, and tackle their "disinformation activities." Right-wing Polish-language weekly Tylko Polska (Only Poland) ran a story with the headline 'How to spot a Jew'. The purpose of the jarring article was to teach readers about the "names, anthropological features, expressions, appearances, character traits, methods of operation" of Jews, along with their "disinformation activities," it said on the front page.
The text also read: "How can they be defeated? This can't go on any longer!" The front page contained a photo of Polish-born US historian Jan Gross, whose works on Polish compliance in the Holocaust during the Nazi occupation has made him a frequent target of the nation's right-wingers.
Lmao. >we're gonna occupy your country and make you pay for the privilege If this shit were actually what the mutts would try, then the US empire would crash overnight. Pretty much only the Poles and hohols would accept a deal like that

>Rockets fired from Gaza at Tel Aviv, explosions heard: Israeli military
Two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at the Tel Aviv area on Thursday, setting off sirens, the Israeli military said, and several explosions were heard.
TV footage showed what looked like Israeli interceptor missiles streaking into the sky above Tel Aviv, Israel’s commercial capital, and detonating.
>U.S. sees Turkey's Russian missile deal as national security problem for NATO
Turkey’s pending purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system presents a national security problem for NATO, which would not be able to deploy F-35 aircraft alongside the Russian systems, senior U.S. officials said on Thursday.
The officials, who briefed a group of reporters on condition of anonymity, said Turkey’s purchase of the S-400 system was not tantamount to it withdrawing from NATO, but that Ankara’s purchase should be viewed as a national security issue, not a merely commercial decision.
“We are continuing to work on a range of options to ensure that Turkey’s participation in the NATO alliance and bilateral relationship can continue unabated and unimpinged,” one of the officials said.
“The gravity of the risk to the F-35 both to the United States and to NATO allies is such that the two systems cannot be co-located.”
>Four dead, hundreds detained after Venezuela blackout: rights groups
Four people were killed and at least 300 were detained in association with protests and looting that took place during Venezuela’s nationwide blackout, rights groups said on Thursday.
The OPEC nation suffered its worst blackout in history last week following technical problems that the government of President Nicolas Maduro called an act of U.S.-backed sabotage but critics dismissed as the result of incompetence.
Rights groups Provea and the Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict said via Twitter that three people were killed in the central state of Lara and one person was killed in the western state of Zulia. The cause of the deaths was unclear.
Alfredo Romero of rights group Foro Penal said at a news conference that 124 people had been detained in protests over public services since the March 8 blackout and that another 200 were arrested over looting.
The Information Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
>Senior Afghan official publicly criticizes U.S. negotiator on visit to Washington
A senior Afghan official on Thursday accused the U.S. peace negotiator of “delegitimizing” the Afghan government in an unusually public attack reflecting Kabul’s mounting alarm over its exclusion from U.S. talks with Taliban insurgents.
National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib’s comments to reporters in Washington were the most strident public complaints to date by an Afghan official over the Kabul’s government’s absence and the role of U.S. Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad, an Afghan-born veteran diplomat.
“Knowing Ambassador Khalilzad’s history, his own personal history, he has ambitions in Afghanistan. He was wanting to run for president twice,” Mohib said hours before meeting senior U.S. officials. “The perception in Afghanistan and people in government think that perhaps, perhaps all this talk is to create a caretaker government of which he will then become the viceroy.”
Viceroy is a politically loaded term in South Asia as it was the title of the colonial administrator of British-ruled India.

The United States is considering sanctions against those responsible for human rights violations against Muslims in China’s Xinjiang region, a U.S. State Department spokesman said on Thursday, calling it a “great shame for humanity.”
“We are committed to promoting accountability for those who are committing these violations and considering targeted sanctions as well, targeted measures, as well,” spokesman Robert Palladino told reporters at a regular briefing.
“We will continue to call on China to end these policies and to free these people who have been arbitrarily detained,” he said.
Palladino said he echoed Turkey’s description of the Xinjiang situation, in calling it a “great shame for humanity.”
Palladino spoke after China hit back on Thursday in unusually strong terms at U.S. State Department criticisms of its Xinjiang policies.
I'd like to remmind everyone that the Xinjiang Muslims were radicalized during the Soviet-Afghan war and were sent in there to stirr shit Now it's biting Chinks in the ass
>SYRIAN OPPOSITION SUMMIT TO LEGITIMIZE AL-QAEDA FAILED BEFORE START
A planned meeting for the Syrian opposition in the Turkish city of Antioch was cancelled due to “security reasons,” the al-Araby al-Jadeed outlet reported on March 14, citing opposition officials who organized the meeting.
Many opposition bodies were invited to the extensive meeting, including the National Syrian Army (NSA), the National Front for Liberation (NFL), the Syrian Higher Negotiation Committee (HNC), the National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, The opposition’s delegation to the Astana talks, the Syrian Interim Government and the Syrian Islamic Council (SIC).
The officials didn’t clarify the nature of the “security reasons” which led to the cancellation of the meeting. However, other sources told al-Arabi al-Jadeed that the meeting was canceled because the Turkish-backed National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces and the Syrian Interim Government had refused to attend it. southfront.org/syrian-opposition-summit-to-legitimize-al-qaeda-failed-before-start/

>SYRIAN ARMY POUNDS ISIS HIDEOUTS IN WESTERN DEIR EZZOR
On March 14, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) shelled several hideouts of ISIS in a desert area southwester of the city of Deir Ezzor from its positions in the Tharda mount, according to the Syrian pro-opposition Jorf News outlet.
The desert area in the western Deir Ezzor is a part of the Homs desert, which covers thousands of square kilometers between Homs, Deir Ezzor, Damascus and Raqqa. ISIS maintains a strong presence in the heart of this desert.
According to the available information, more than 1,000 terrorists are currently stationed in the Homs desert. These fighters are believed to be highly-experienced and well-armed.

AL-SHABAAB MILITANTS ATTACK US TROOPS POSITIONS IN SOMALIA
“The airstrike was conducted in support of Somali-led ground forces that came under attack from militants. U.S. service members were present during the ground operation in an advisory capacity. All U.S. service members are accounted for and are unharmed.
This mission and airstrike are part of a larger effort to support the Somalia National Army (SNA) as it increases pressure on the terrorist network.
The SNA and its partners will continue to effectively target the terrorist network in order to deny al-Shabaab the ability to build capacity and attack the people of Somalia. In particular, the group uses portions of southern and central Somalia to plot and direct terror attacks, steal humanitarian aid, extort the local populace to fund its operations, and shelter radical terrorists,” U.S. Africa Command reported.
Are Sunni ruled countries like Saudi and UAE and Jordan and Bahrain not against Iran so much so that they support ISIS killers over Shia liberators? Just like the Jews. Yes or no? Abu Bake and Umar did indeed joke about the days that they used to bury their daughters alive. Stating facts here. I see you aren't denying it, only that I pointed it out. I was only pointing out how they're not worthy which is true.
If you call Shia untermensch or stupid, then the ones they're btfoing are even stupid and worse untermensch than them. That's just logic. But they aren't btfoing Sunnis, they are btfoing salafi extremists. You just can't differentiate.. maybe it offers a hint on who you support. Mosul Sunnis that had no role to play in liberating the area, didn't join PMU, didn't even join army, rather they supported or protected the extremists in their community are indeed butthurt at the popularity and support that the PMU enjoy. This isn't an anti Sunni statement. It's just a fact.
You're misrepresenting the meaning of Taqiyya again. I didn't lie about my religion or anything else. You just think I irrationally hate Sunnis because you irrationally hate Shia and think I'm the same as you. Thank God I'm not. Didn't insult sunnis, just extremist salafi wahhabis and their supporters. It annoys you because you support them. I didn't call Sunnis Jews. Just said that the rulers of Sunni countries support Israel. Never said that the population does. The rulers are puppets and cucked unlike Chad Iraqis and Iranians.
Again, post screenshots, not what you thought I said. I didn't say what you accuse me of. Phone turned off, sorry for late reply.

>3,000 ISIS FIGHTERS SURRENDER TO US-BACKED FORCES IN EUPHRATES VALLEY AS BATTLE HEATS UP (
Over 3,000 ISIS fighters surrendered to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the middle Euphrates River Valley in the last 24 hours, a spokesman for the US-backed group announced on March 12.
Despite the surrender of this large number of terrorists, the battle around the last ISIS stronghold north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani is still ongoing. The SDF press center said that US-led coalition warplanes carried out more than 20 airstrikes on the terrorist group’s positions in the last few hours.
Continuing to be a proxy force for whatever israeli/American/Gulf Arab/Turkish agency is currently paying them. They're basically mercenaries that use the whole Islamic terrorism angle as cover and recruitment.

shia bro how does the continuing imamate work? is shia islam always under some form of reform? how far can it go? afaik Muhammad (PBUH) had mandate to resolve issues that arose in the early umma, but not the right to decide on the fundamentals of the religion, as these came from Gabriel. Is it similar? I ask because I love islam, but I also think maybe that it might, in spite of everything, be time for reform. I don't trust the papacy and the sunnis have no mechanism for this. it's between you and the jews, who might become relevant again for the reason that the Quran denounces them, namely that they think their rabbis have the right to legislate for God.

The Imamate works as one Imam being born in every generation from the Prophet's bloodline. The prophet had only a daughter, no other kids. Imam Ali was chosen to marry her despite other people asking for her hand on many occasions, including the other 3 caliphs. Imam Ali was born in the Kaaba, and you can see the cracks on the walls of the kaaba from where his mother emerged after giving birth to him to this day. Fatima is known as the leader of all the women of Paradise. Imam Ali was naturally the only one suited for her. And their progeny was pure. One Imam would command the Muslims in every generation after the prophet. But the imamate and caliphate was usurped and taken away by plotters. The Imams and Prophets would never disagree with any law of the Quran, although others have made halal into Haram and Haram into halal. On many occasions the prophet had mentioned the significance of his own family, and Allah has shown their high position over others, as seen in Quran 3:61 how he asked Muhammad, Ali, Fatima and the children of Ali and Fatima, imam Hasan and Husayn to represent Muslims when Christians came to challenge them.
The important thing to note is that Hasan and Husayn were 4 and 3 years old at the time.. and despite being married to Aisha, he didn't take her, neither did he take Umar or others. This shows that Quran considers the household of the prophet to be representing Islam and being superior over all other Muslims even at age 4 and 3.
After the martyrdom of Imam Husayn by Yazid's army at Karbala, one male in every generation was an imam.
The founders of the Sunni subsects of Maliki, Hanbali, Shafeyi and Hanafi were mere students of the 6th Imam. They don't even have the knowledge of the others and have tried to upstage them and oppress them and cut the hands of their followers for centuries and still couldn't destroy Shiism.
The prophet had on other occasions said that Imam Hasan and Husayn were the leaders of the youth of Jannah

“And when his Lord tried Ibrahim with commands, he fulfilled them. He said: Surely I will make you an Imam for mankind. (Ibrahim) said: And of my offspring (will there be leaders)? He said, my covenant does not include the unjust”. (2:124)
The verse illustrates two points:
1. The position of Imamate is higher in rank than that of Prophet Hood (since Ibrahim was already a prophet and Allah made him an Imam)
2. Imamate (religious leadership) does not include the unjust (like those that bury their daughters alive or drink alcohol) 1. The prominent status of Imamate. The imams are higher than all Prophets except Muhammad.
2. The (position of) Imamate does not include the unjust.
The Imams and their followers have been persecuted, attacked, oppressed and imprisoned. And yet Shiism is stronger than ever.
The word Imam is mentioned in the Quran 12 times. the word "Day" is mentioned 365, times, month is mentioned 12 times and hour is mentioned 24 times. The 12th and final imam is under occultation and hasn't revealed himself. Other proofs that the prophet wanted people to follow the Imams was when at his deathbed he said "I leave behind you 2 things: the book of Allah (Quran) and my Ahlulbayt(people of my house). You will never find one without the other"
This is in Sahih Muslim which is a Sunni Hadith book by the way.
There are many other quranic verses that highlight the position of Imam Ali and his family..
TLDR: the imams were guides sent by Allah to prevent Muslims from becoming astray. The ones that follow them, follow the Quran.

the idea is that while humans are still humans, and our needs are still the same, our lives are not the same. Men and women mix. People marry late if at all. Big families are no longer a thing. this is all due to the changes of the western economies since the late 18th century. the changes are rational with the new system. The system itself might be a mistake, but we live with it now and it's basically what made everything more advanced than mudcakes. An industrialised country destroys a pre-industrial one in war (inb4 some examples: all of colonialism and sykes-picot). The same system that made those wars possible, if you give it time, gives you degeneracy. And humans as a whole can't be expected to martyr themselves forever (for instance the Quran forgives you for what you say under torture). They need to be able to defend themselves and seek justice. And the only way to do that, it seems, is to invite degeneracy. That's the problem.

there's another problem though. the real reason industrialism had to happen was it made it possible to produce enough food for a growing population. without a mass-death event we don't really have a choice.
