The empire was around in various forms (HRE, Austrian empire, Austria-Hungary) for hundreds of years and was one of the greatest powers in Europe for most of its existence. Didn't fail so hard until they got fucked first by the Prussians in 1866 and then ww1.

They motivated this by their fear that Russia would get stronger by annexing the Ottoman lands. They also didn't want Russia to form alliences with southern slavs.
Anglo and French preferred Russia to be in constant conflict with the turks, and it wanted southern slavs to be subdued by the Ottomans. Ottomans did not present much, if any, threat to the Anglos and frogs, in fact it provided a lot of trade to them, but if Russia takes over Constantinople - that will mean that Russia will control the entire middle east and the whole Black Sea. If Russia were to take control of all that, messing with Russia, through economic sanctions or war, would void the trade with the middle east and the Ottomans. And we would just become even bigger, stronger and scarier and would be imposing our will on the whole Europe through force, which is, I guess, a "bad" thing for nations that wanted to dominate the continent by themselves.

Or the Bongs and Frogs just hate Russia and having their countries invaded by muslim turks and arabs was their plan all along, idk.

Even if they didn't lose WW1, the Habsburg Empire was due to inevitably break up, as minorities became increasingly belligerent and bolder to demand either autonomy or independence. I think for the Austria-Hungary to survive, they would have needed to let Bosnia and Croatia go, before the Slavic problem destroyed all of the empire from within. Even Yugoslavia couldn't prevent all the Slavs from killing each other.

A compromise was actually made between Hungarians and Croats, and they did not rise up for more autonomy in the end days because they already had it. Croatia was almost kinda like its own thing within the Kingdom of Hungary for over 800 years. They were also regarded as the most reliable Slavs in the military, because they didn't surrender or desert en masse like others did.

Yeah, you have been mostly occupied by other powers, and for a good reason. You basically exist for 700 years as a separate state (since your country was formed only at the late XXth century) and that does not account for much, you are still somewhat of a very young and largely irrelevant nation, compared to other European countries, and you were and are used as a buffer zone for the most part.
