Also, in the case of the Netherlands, I believe that we need as many populist parties as possible. Competition will weed out the shittiest ones and each of them will appeal to some people who don't like the others, thereby growing the total amount of votes for 'good' parties. The only downside I could think of is muh stealing votes, but low entry barrier for entering the lower house (last election any party with more than 70k votes got in) and a multiparty system mean that taking votes away from each other doesn't matter much.

As long as the parties are both under the "barring limit", if you have something like that, or are competing for a single representative, then you can talk about "dividing the votes".
