How do I stop substituting fake achievements (finishing video games, movies, albums) for actually doing something with my life and changing my situation for the better?

Try working and have a god damned purpose.

Cute

When you hit the 4 hour mark of playing a game where you're exhausted of it and not even having fun anymore, go read a book for 5 minutes. Then the next day do it for 10 minutes. Etc.

Do speed runs in those video games, that's the next level.

How often do you actually start something else?

Pick something that looks interesting and look up guides/tutorials for beginners, the first small achievements should give you enough dopamine to stick with it.

Also, the start lifting meme is true

Life's full of tiny achievements. Like visiting a neighbourhood place you have never been to, tasting a new food, doing the laundry, saying I love you to your parents, etc.
Don't overlook them, they are more rewarding on long term than "I simulated the sodomy of a dragon with a sledgehammer on my computer".

I have a form of this problem too. I have gotten lazy as shit from rewiring my brain to get more pleasure from playing video games or watching porn and shit like that than accomplishing things IRL. Everything that requires effort seems hard and pointless when I can just get the quick dopamine hit from entertainment. And I know it's fucked up but like a lot of folks on Jow Forums I've been doing it to myself for years because I didn't really have a life in school. The habits are just so engrained. Idk how to turn it around sometimes.
