But I don't think having a large family is very practical these days. Most people are struggling.

But even the poorest people today (in the west) live more comfortably than the average farmer from the 1800s. It's not that we're struggling, it's that we got used to a luxury lifestyle and anything below it seems miserable to us.

What a bunch of nonsense. I don't care how people lived in the 1800s. I want to provide a good life for my children so they can be happy and successful.
For me it's more important to provide a good life to one or two children then to have a bunch of kids. I want my kids to be able to pursue their interests and I want to have enough time to spend with each of them so they feel loved and personally attended to.
I also don't believe in welfare. I don't need to have a rich husband, but yeah if he wants to have a bunch of kids that means I'm going to have to be a caretaker full time. He will need to be able to pay all the household bills and provide for all of us. And I want to live somewhere where my children can go to good schools.
He will also have to respect me and my position in the house. Too many men want a housewife just to mistreat and belittle her. She is your wife, the mother of your children and has a full time job taking care of them. I hear all the time men complaining about women doing nothing all day because they don't work. Nothing could be further from the truth. Or women that basically have zero money because their husbands don't respect the work they do. They treat their wives like slaves and resent giving her anything.
Anyway you seem more like a provider of excuses than anything else.

I agree with all of this, except I think it's easily possible to raise 3 or 4 kids very well if you have good income. Having 1 kid is terrible tho, kids need that fraternity feeling in their childhood. 2 is okay but 3 or 4 is ideal

You're missing the point. I said that it is better to provide fully for 1-2 children then to have 3-4 and not be able to give them the same opportunities.
You need more than a good income for 3-4 children.
I want my children to be able to pursue their interests. Say you have four children. One is a violinist, one plays soccer, another is into robotics, and the last is a painter. Those all entail time, lessons, materials, etc. And it is important to me they are all able to go to college if they want to.
I also have my own interests. I love baking and knitting. My husband's salary would have to cover my hobbies and give me some spending money for things I like. I'm not a slave I would be working and providing for my family through my labor.
One salary split among 3 people vs 6 is a big difference.
Perhaps it is enough for some people to simply provide a home and food for their children and put the burden on them to acquire anything beyond that but I personally think it's irresponsible.
