I went to catholic school which was led by a nunnery; very few fo the nuns there have had whatever you envision to be a morally doubtless life before (and for some, not even after). One of my favourite teachers among them had severe drug problems before she decided to become a nun.

I was never raised religious, so I don't really understand the whole religious community thing, but a monastery of dude monks is set up near my house. They make absolutely amazing fudge and chocolates, but aside from that I have no idea what they do all day. I don't think I could live without travel and adventure, but your mileage may vary.

The idea of holding off on sex till marriage is deeply unpopular. A lot of guys are going to bounce just because it seems like obvious gold digging, with you using sex as a bargaining chip to get them to sign away their lives. It'd be a sign that they have no respect for themselves if they were allowed to be "controlled" by their penises in that way.

It feels to them like a deeply unequal negotiation in what should be a message of reciprocity. Plus what if you find out after you get married that you just don't enjoy having sex with them. Yeah it's hedonism, but sex also = intimacy, and a marriage without intimacy is deeply unsatisfying for both parents and projects bad outcomes for the children as well as they can tell that their parents aren't connected fully and don't grow up with a good role model for a loving relationship.

So to me it seems wanting to have your ideal family is a great goal, and wanting to have a spiritual life and rack up some karma is a great goal, but maybe it would be better to look at other ways you can accomplish these and be a bit more flexible.

I have a great deal of gratitude to the sisters who took care of my father when he was ill, so I don't want to say "no, don't do it," I just think you should do it for the right reasons. While the numbers are abysmal and far lower than they should be, there are still about 5% of people in the US who do wait until marriage, and that will obviously be a more religious group anyway. I would assume that they're concentrated in the Midwest and South, but on that OP should be cautious, since shotgun marriages done to get around the "waiting" defeat the whole purpose and drive the high divorce rates in the Bible Belt. They're also not Catholics, of course.

That's largely the point of waiting, though. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but I read this as a tacit endorsement of premarital sex, which I would disagree with.

I'mAs you can imagine, I spend a fair amount of time on this particular issue, and the so-called "born-again virgins" come in two common categories, I'd imagine:

1. They're addicted to the feeling of Christianity without actually practicing any of its teachings. They do some things as a phase or accessory, and 'waiting until marriage' is one of them--not that the marriage is particularly likely to last. Basically, they like the sound of being in their own redemption arc.

2. They're delusional ex-degenerates who have cognitive dissonance from coming to an understanding that their past actions were wrong, and they try to wash their hands of it as hard as they can.
