You should buy your gf stuff you'd like to see her wear, but that is still close enough to her style at first. Be excited to see her wear it and encourage her to dwelve into it if she seems interested. Drop it if she acts uncomfortable, and either drop the relationship if the fetish/preference is strong enough or suffer in silence.

I have listened to some goth stuff though. I liked Bauhaus' debut album, a bit of Cocteau Twins' earlier stuff, and some of The Cure and liked all of it. I need to get into Joy Division and Siouxie and the Banshees next.
