i see older homes in that style in several different small towns in my area. most of them were built in the early 1900s, i believe. usually built very close to a nearby railroad.

I own a tiny 1 bedroom miners cabin in the bush. It’s 150 year old and in perfect order, it’s cheap and manageable.
Older mansions while marvels of things and testament to artistic craftmenship are sadly getting near impossible to maintain, not just sourcing materials like matching timbers but the skills of the tradesmen themselves have disappeared and are only done by a select few.
Castle restoration is a prime example.
It’s a perfect example of progressives making it economically impossible to keep history around for future generations.
