Are you 'oversocialized'?

Ted Kaczynski coined the term 'oversocialization' in his famous manifesto. It meant to him people who are fixated on the collective to the detriment of the individual due to their fixation upon large groupings. He used it to soundly critique leftism & point out its ridiculousness. An example would be how the left went from wanting cig companies to admit tobacco was bad, to wanting warning labels, to wanting higher taxes to wanting smoking banned entirely.

Now. Jumping ahead almost 30 years I ponder,

Is the right now oversocialized too? Is the rise in popularity of fascism on the right a part of that? Is the sudden fetishization of authoritarianism a part of that as well? Have we become so fixated on the collective that the individual & individuals do not matter?

Yes dude. Lots of people seem to be oversocializing and shit. I try to stay away from communities or groups because of people's tendency to do this.

Problem is people can't admit they're wrong, can't think for themselves and can't live without the attention and admiration of others. Politically most of them are flighting off in some fantasy or another most of the time, selectively ignoring information contrary to their ideology. They can't imagine any alternatives other than what their preferred pundits are telling them is the solution, and can't understand the nuances of what's happening. They also have 0 historical perspective.

You already knew all of that though. Good luck trying to find people who are analytical and honest, there aren't many of them.

Most cringe of all? Repeating 'cringe', bonus points for working that faggot hipster shit in more than once.

ironic they had some bitch on the ABC (Australian bolshevik commision) radio today say some shit about how politics needs to stop focusing on the individual and focus on the collective.

Yeah. That's newspeak for 'bend over'.

OVERSOCIALIZATION

24. Psychologists use the term “socialization” to designate the process by which children are trained to think and act as society demands. A person is said to be well socialized if he believes in and obeys the moral code of his society and fits in well as a functioning part of that society. It may seem senseless to say that many leftists are oversocialized, since the leftist is perceived as a rebel. Nevertheless, the position can be defended. Many leftists are not such rebels as they seem.

25. The moral code of our society is so demanding that no one can think, feel and act in a completely moral way. For example, we are not supposed to hate anyone, yet almost everyone hates somebody at some time or other, whether he admits it to himself or not. Some people are so highly socialized that the attempt to think, feel and act morally imposes a severe burden on them. In order to avoid feelings of guilt, they continually have to deceive themselves about their own motives and find moral explanations for feelings and actions that in reality have a non-moral origin. We use the term “oversocialized” to describe such people. [2]

26. Oversocialization can lead to low self-esteem, a sense of powerlessness, defeatism, guilt, etc. One of the most important means by which our society socializes children is by making them feel ashamed of behavior or speech that is contrary to society’s expectations. If this is overdone, or if a particular child is especially susceptible to such feelings, he ends by feeling ashamed of HIMSELF. Moreover the thought and the behavior of the oversocialized person are more restricted by society’s expectations than are those of the lightly socialized person. The majority of people engage in a significant amount of naughty behavior. They lie, they commit petty thefts, they break traffic laws, they goof off at work, they hate someone, they say spiteful things or they use some underhanded trick to get ahead of the other guy.

The oversocialized person cannot do these things, or if he does do them he generates in himself a sense of shame and self-hatred. The oversocialized person cannot even experience, without guilt, thoughts or feelings that are contrary to the accepted morality; he cannot think “unclean” thoughts. And socialization is not just a matter of morality; we are socialized to conform to many norms of behavior that do not fall under the heading of morality. Thus the oversocialized person is kept on a psychological leash and spends his life running on rails that society has laid down for him. In many oversocialized people this results in a sense of constraint and powerlessness that can be a severe hardship. We suggest that oversocialization is among the more serious cruelties that human beings inflict on one another.

We argue that a very important and influential segment of the modern left is oversocialized and that their oversocialization is of great importance in determining the direction of modern leftism. Leftists of the oversocialized type tend to be intellectuals or members of the upper-middle class. Notice that university intellectuals [3] constitute the most highly socialized segment of our society and also the most left-wing segment.

28. The leftist of the oversocialized type tries to get off his psychological leash and assert his autonomy by rebelling. But usually he is not strong enough to rebel against the most basic values of society. Generally speaking, the goals of today’s leftists are NOT in conflict with the accepted morality. On the contrary, the left takes an accepted moral principle, adopts it as its own, and then accuses mainstream society of violating that principle. Examples: racial equality, equality of the sexes, helping poor people, peace as opposed to war, nonviolence generally, freedom of expression, kindness to animals.

More fundamentally, the duty of the individual to serve society and the duty of society to take care of the individual. All these have been deeply rooted values of our society (or at least of its middle and upper classes [4] for a long time. These values are explicitly or implicitly expressed or presupposed in most of the material presented to us by the mainstream communications media and the educational system. Leftists, especially those of the oversocialized type, usually do not rebel against these principles but justify their hostility to society by claiming (with some degree of truth) that society is not living up to these principles.

29. Here is an illustration of the way in which the oversocialized leftist shows his real attachment to the conventional attitudes of our society while pretending to be in rebellion against it. Many leftists push for affirmative action, for moving black people into high-prestige jobs, for improved education in black schools and more money for such schools; the way of life of the black “underclass” they regard as a social disgrace.

They want to integrate the black man into the system, make him a business executive, a lawyer, a scientist just like upper-middle-class white people. The leftists will reply that the last thing they want is to make the black man into a copy of the white man; instead, they want to preserve African American culture. But in what does this preservation of African American culture consist? It can hardly consist in anything more than eating black-style food, listening to black-style music, wearing black-style clothing and going to a black- style church or mosque. In other words, it can express itself only in superficial matters. In all ESSENTIAL respects most leftists of the oversocialized type want to make the black man conform to white, middle-class ideals. They want to make him study technical subjects, become an executive or a scientist, spend his life climbing the status ladder to prove that black people are as good as white. They want to make black fathers “responsible,” they want black gangs to become nonviolent, etc.

But these are exactly the values of the industrial-technological system. The system couldn’t care less what kind of music a man listens to, what kind of clothes he wears or what religion he believes in as long as he studies in school, holds a respectable job, climbs the status ladder, is a “responsible” parent, is nonviolent and so forth. In effect, however much he may deny it, the oversocialized leftist wants to integrate the black man into the system and make him adopt its values.

The individual is fundamentally worthless, EVERYTHING is achieved solely through the collective. I mean that quite seriously.

Consider a genius mathematician who solves incredibly difficult problems on his own, he does so only with the lesiure time afforded to him through the labour of others. All problems that he solves are also built on top of the cumulative work of countless others. I can go on and on about this, but hopefully you get the point.

>go out innawoods
>live in cabin off the grid and work out new mathematics
>socialists come and state that you couldnt have done it without them toiling away to pay tax
The only thanks I owe are to God

Ted is a mentally damaged sperg. First the childhood experience of isolation then the lawyer fags humiliating him and on top his born autism. What he calls "oversocialization" is just a normal human interaction. Do you really wanna take advice on socialization from a fucking forest hermit sending people pipe bombs?

Absolutely delusional. How the fuck will you get a cabon? Will you build it yourself? How will you build it, with tools made by others? What will you wear while building it? Clothes made by others? The very idea of a cabin as thing that you can build, will it just spring into your mind? What will you eat while you do this backbreaking labour to construct this cabin?

I believe over socialization is the result of a lacking healthy means of collective engagement. The church used to fill this role. Religion was something everyone can be united by and working towards it's goals is what helped exercise this need for collective action. We are social animals after all. But the church had become unimportant. It's a "relic of the past" and we are told "do away with that worthless thing." But let me ask you, what outlit for collective action remains? Politics and the tribe. And when such divisive things are the only outlit for collective activity, you will inevitablity stress society into conflict with itself.

Did I steal all these tools, or pay someone to buy them? Did I steal the labour, or pay someone to construct it? Dumb faggot its over once you get paid

Kek

It's legitimately hard to disentangle oversocializing from real concern in today's globalist context. Sometimes I think I am an oversocialized sperg for only paying attention to national vs local politics but the threat of china is pretty significant and real.

no and i fucking hate people who are

they make me wanna kill someone

The biggest example of this is leftists obsessively using the phrase WHO WE ARE. The right is susceptible to this only to the extent that they allow the left to dominate the popular culture and then they subscribe to a more moderate version of the morality that leftists' espouse. So they go along with the NOT WHO WE ARE stuff to, just to a slightly lesser extent. An example would be someone like Paul Ryan.

Nor could have the collective advanced without the individual and their talent & labor.

Cringe.
1. Bend one's head and body in fear or apprehension or in a servile manner.

This verb is unsuitable.

You do present a real issue of where to draw the line. I guess I'd say it's whenever serving the collective becomes counter-productive for the individual, as of now we either refer to that as madness or altruism.

Based tedposter.

bump for daddy ted

Anyone worrying about the “survival of the race” is ipso facto oversocialized.

does he pay all of society or just the people that gave him what he required? think before you post

it's uncle ted, or if you're a real fan, uncle TJ

Lmao at Ted Kaczynski becoming a commercialized fad

I think he'd find his internet fame most amusing, considering what his target was.

I'm not talking about payment, I'm talking about the fact that you are inherently part of a collective whether you like it or not. Everything you do is built on top of what others do. This is a fact of Human existance that far too many people never become fully aware of.

Individualism is an ideological cancer. The group, above all else, is what should come first.

Attached: 1939.jpg (1400x937, 219K)

(Me)
>The group, above all else, is what should come first.
And why should it come first? Because it's best for the individual.

Which is built upon individuals. Why must you assign greater value and merit to one?

It's shit logic.

If you were a farmer in the Soviet Union under Stalin were you better off supporting the collective even if it meant your death?

(There's a balancing act here, folks.)

that's a really old shirt, and i'm sure he'd approve anyways since people are reading his material

why did they keep his shack?

Interesting Q. Apparently, Ted K had agreed for it to be destroyed to somehow help the victims feel better. But then he transferred ownership to an investigator who donated it to a DC museum.

Reminder that these savages don't even hide their intentions.

JFK's efforts against Israeli nuclear program, which led to his assassination.

Depends on how much you would identify with that particular group/collective.

Just have a look at the number of Russians who gave their lives on the Eastern Front. When it came to war a lot of those men did decide that potentially dying for their group was worthwhile.

Unaboomer was delusional and let his autism blind him. Getting rid of the technological system is magically going to solve all problems for humanity even though it has caused a lot of good for us. I have read his manifesto and to be honest, it was a disappointment to me.
