EU4, but you absolutely have to play the "MEIOU and Taxes" mod. Adds much more depth. A population and wealth dynamic, technology and culture spread and so on. Couldn't play the base game after playing the mod.

after I got burned out on Civ 5 I picked up EU4 and never went back. after hundreds of hours in it, tried CK2 and loved it even more. Civ games feel completely lifeless and boring now. i wish i could go back to enjoying them sometimes...
