If an asteroid is on a collision course with Earth, to push it off that course with a single collision by a craft we're capable of launching into space, you'd have to impact it so far away that you'd need to send it before you spotted it. What I suggest you do to raise your chances of survival post impact is focus on bulk food; Rice, Flour, Lentils. Sunlight is out. Have supplements to compensate for the nutrients you will lack. Get a hand held water filter you would use for back packing and a rain barrel or two. Weapon, bullets, medical supplies.
If you have none of this now and cannot afford it, good luck. Don't forget batteries and candles for light, minimize your sound and light at all costs and if it is at all possible for you secure a way to see in the dark, it will give you an enormous advantage for finding supplies and taking out hostiles. Also, dont forget to bundle up because its going to get cold no matter where you live with nothing to warm you but fire and warmth packs.
