300ppm is just a random number.
It's not, I already explained the reason to you:
It's the CO2 concentration of a Pleistocene interglacial - the type of climate in which human civilization happens to have developed.

Also, during the last glacial maximum CO2 was at 180ppm and mass extinction was curiously absent.

We're not going to reach dangerously low levels by reducing CO2 emissions.

CO2 levels are lower during glacial periods and higher during interglacials. We're currently in an interglacial and have no intention of lowering CO2 concentrations to glacial period levels. Even at those levels, life on Earth still thrives.

It is pretty well accepted that plants need more than 150ppm. When were at 180ppm plant did die off in high elevations where the air is thinner and the ppms are less. If man can warm the planet, then we are lucky we did so, it may have saved us all. There may come a day when we burn a much fuel as possible to add CO2 in a desperate effort to avoid a deep freeze.

Carson Gonzalez

I would tell you that you're wrong. Throughout geological history, CO2 has contributed to climate change.

Take the long-term carbon cycle for example. Mountain building leads to erosion and exposes silicate minerals to weathering. As a result of silicate weathering, CO2 is taken out of the atmosphere and stored in the geosphere as limestone. This brings the Earth into an icehouse state. We are currently in an icehouse state, in part due to the collision of India with Asia and the formation of the Himalayas. To enter a greenhouse state, the carbonate material is subducted and released back into the atmosphere through volcanic activity. This occurred during the Permian-Triassic extinction event.

CO2 also contributes to the glacial-interglacial cycles. Orbital forcings act as the initial warming which then leads to changes in ocean circulation patterns, allowing for the release of CO2 from the ocean, taking the Earth out of a glacial period and into an interglacial.

The most similar example to our current warming was the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum. This was a rapid spike in temperature driven by methane clathrates.

Clean up trash, plant more trees, look into hydrogen powere for fuel instead of oil. Seriously google “water powered car” it’s been done several times but every time big oil or car manufactures buy the patent and shut it down. You convert the engine for vapor fuel instead of liquid and you need to beef up the cooling system seriously so it doesn’t melt down, then you can fill the tank full of distilled water with a conductive agent in it, and run it through an electrolysis generator before sending it through the engine

the Medieval Warm Period has known causes which explain both the scale of the warmth and the pattern. It has now become clear to scientists that the Medieval Warm Period occurred during a time which had higher than average solar radiation and less volcanic activity (both resulting in warming).

So it was driven by solar cycles. Did you know solar cycles also effect volcanic activity?

Why is the sun the driver of every warm peak before this but not the modern warm peak?

The sun was in solar maximum and we would expect during that time to see warming, and we did, just like the prior warm peaks. NASA predicts we will go into minimum by 2019-2020 and we should see the cooling expected by the troughs in those prior graphs.

All other things being equal, and knowing nothing about climate science, the most risk free choice would be to keep CO2 levels within the range that they have been in for the last 8,000 years up to the Industrial Revolution, because we know that those levels are compatible over a long period of time with human civilisation. Anything else is a gamble. Sure, it might turn out that anthropogenic climate change all a hoax or a hysterical overreaction, but we don't know for sure either way. In general, if you have a choice between keeping some environmental variable within the normal range it's been in for millennia without issue, and fucking with it to see what happens, the status quo is always preferable. That is all good, conservative and so on. The problem is just that CO2 is a byproduct of nearly everything we do, and a drastic reduction in output can only be achieved in two ways, either abandoning modern living, or using a substantial amount of our surplus resources to implement technologies that are more or less science fiction currently. Both these schemes will result in a greatly reduced standard of living. So being cautious is not exactly trivial in this case.

How do you think the superabundance of pollutant aerosols will impact the uptick in cloud formation during Solar minimums? is it possible that pollution will actually make the solar minimum harsher? What about grand solar minimums?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Maximum

According to this the Modern Maximum is from 1914-2008, we would would expect to see warming during this time.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalton_Minimum

Like the Maunder Minimum and Spörer Minimum, the Dalton Minimum coincided with a period of lower-than-average global temperatures. During that period, there was a variation of temperature of about 1 °C in Germany.
The cause of the lower-than-average temperatures and their possible relation to the low sunspot count are not well understood

It seems like we barely understand how the solar cycles impact the climate, CERN is doing a study right now on how it impacts cloud formation.
cloud.web.cern.ch/cloud

Atmospheric aerosols and their effect on clouds are poorly understood and yet important for climate. Indeed, they are recognised by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 2013) as the largest source of uncertainty in present radiative forcing and in climate projections over the 21st century.

Why are you so certain that the impact of cosmic rays on cloud formation and volcanism will not cause cooling? Solar irradiance is not the primary mechanism the sun uses to influence climate btw.

Exactly, it's the mechanisms of solar shielding and probably thousands of other poorly understood mechanisms that cause climate changes. I recently read that one of the climate models Implemented solar particle forcing. But when it's switched on, all of the changes can be explained even by the few modelled solar mechanisms. So what did they do? They turned that part of the model off because it gave them the wrong answer. Fuck scientific fraud.

Climate change can be fought by cutting off unnecessary production. Imagine building a car that easily lasts 30 instead of just 7 years, or all the electronics that just fail due to planned obsolescence.
We could cut work by a huge margin without losing living standards and gain a lot of free time. Industrials and elites hate thus because fear for your 9-5 keeps the masses in check.

You're right. There are still uncertainties, and aerosols are a big one. I don't think these uncertainties can offset all the warming from CO2 emissions though. If you have access to scientific journals, have a read of this:

My thought is something like if we stopped being so alarmist and took a very gradual approach over a long period we could make huge improvements and not even notice a quality of life difference. Especially since most things would be beneficial whether climate change is real or not.

Some irrefutable facts:

- CO2 is transparent to the bulk of radiation emitted by the Sun, visible light
- This solar radiation heats the surface of the Earth
- This heat is emitted by the Earth into space as infra-red radiation
- CO2 is opaque to certain wavelengths of infra-red radiation which is reflected back to the Earth
- This interaction is well understood via quantum theory
- The more CO2 in the atmosphere, the less energy emitted into space

Now, with the above known and irrefutable facts, one can reasonably make a prediction that the mean temperature of Earth will increase in relation to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

I just find looking at the past the most reliable estimate of future climate changes. The past says that the LARGEST impact on the climate and the driver of EVERY cold and warm trough and peak is solar cycles and we are willing to throw 6,000+ years of historical record out now because of CO2 which has not produced a viable weather model yet.

So we are admitting we barely understand the most important driver of climate, the sun, and the various ways it impacts temp, primarily through CLOUD formation...this seems like a major hole.... Look at solar cycles and iceberg activity as just another example...

Also, shouldnt we be much more concerned about cold cycles than warm? Every prior warm cycle you see population booms, science, literature, art flourish as less people are needed to produce food, less serious wars and disease, less migration etc....

During cold periods we see worldwide crop loss, famine, migration which leads to spread of disease and wars...And we are freaking out over the warm peak? When 90% of the planet lives near the equator because humans thrive in warm climates? A change that at worst will produce more freshwater, more oxygen, more food, more biomass in general as we continue to hit record crop yields every year?

Ill check out the solar minimum study you mentioned

Looking at the past, both CO2 and solar activity both correlate with temperature. It's easy to look at a graph of the Holocene and say that the sun is the main driver, but that's because CO2 remained relatively constant. The sun has been growing increasingly brighter throughout Earth's history, but Earth hasn't been getting increasingly warmer. CO2 has also been driving the climate.

Any change in temperature is bad if it happens too quickly. It not only changes temperature but also the hydrological cycle, which will be detrimental to growing food in some areas.

Water vapor is about 10 times more heat trapping the co2 ban water vapor to 0

Eli Nelson

Looking at the past, both CO2 and solar activity both correlate with temperature.

Like look at the early part of this graph, before modern CO2 production, you can see temp mirroring solar changes, without a change in CO2. As the modern warm peak increases, so does solar activity in line with CO2.

Is the modern warm peak occurring faster than the medieval roman or minoan? These peaks occurred just as fast from what I can tell, lasted longer and got to warmer temps than today. Our modern warm is the COOLEST warm peak in recorded human history. We have been gradually getting COOLER since the end of the Younger Dryas.

It doesnt appear that CO2 has a particularly strong correlation to temp if you step back far enough to look. Perhaps because CO2 has diminishing returns and reaches saturation at around 300PPM so after that you see diminishing returns?

some irrefutable facts:

-the sun has always, and will always determine earths climate.
-there is zero correlation between CO2 levels and temp. there are direct correlations between rising temps and rising co2 levels.
-earth has gained less than 1 degree in 1,000 years, the slowest period of change known
-whats so special about current temps? why is a couple degrees cooler or warmer not better? we are magically in a random sweet spot? was one degree cooler 1000 yrs ago better? no.
-more co2 equals much more vegetation equals healthier people, healthier animal kingdom and healthier planet.

Earth's orbit around the sun changed about 10000 years ago, its called a Milankovitch cycle.

It is known that the Earth's orbit around the sun changes shape every 100,000 years. The orbit becomes either more round or more elliptical at these intervals. The shape of the orbit is known as its "eccentricity." A related aspect is the 41,000-year cycle in the tilt of the Earth's axis.

Glaciation of the Earth also occurs every 100,000 years. Lisiecki found that the timing of changes in climate and eccentricity coincided. "The clear correlation between the timing of the change in orbit and the change in the Earth's climate is strong evidence of a link between the two," said Lisiecki. "It is unlikely that these events would not be related to one another."

Besides finding a link between change in the shape of the orbit and the onset of glaciation, Lisiecki found a surprising correlation. She discovered that the largest glacial cycles occurred during the weakest changes in the eccentricity of Earth's orbit –– and vice versa. She found that the stronger changes in the Earth's orbit correlated to weaker changes in climate. "This may mean that the Earth's climate has internal instability in addition to sensitivity to changes in the orbit," said Lisiecki

Throughout geological history, CO2 has contributed to climate change.

climate is a complex system that cant yet be modeled so that statement is mere speculation if CO2 drives the climate or and increase or decrease is a consequence of other factors.

This was a rapid spike in temperature driven by methane clathrates.

this is also pure speculation

but what it shows for sure without a doubt that the climate can change and warm in very short time period
