Seimas supported the demolition of the Monument to the Liberators in Riga
For the promotion of the idea of demolishing the Monument to Soviet soldiers in Riga, deputies from all parties voted - except for the “Consent” and the “Development - For!” Party. The idea of the demolition of the Freedom Monument was supported by 45 members of the Seimas, 30 deputies of the people spoke against.
The petition proposed two options for dismantling, quote:
1) In cooperation with the National Armed Forces, dismantle it using a controlled explosion.
2) Dismantling to implement in collaboration with a construction company that specializes in the dismantling of large buildings.
The initiative after the deputy vote has been submitted to the Seimas Commission for the drafting of the corresponding draft law.
Recall that the initiative of the Latvian MEP Tatiana Zhdanok to preserve the Monument to the Liberators in Riga (signed by more than 10,000 citizens), the Saeima categorically rejected - did not even consider it.
