americans prefer much larger homes. I watch those shows where couples decide whether to buy a new one or renovate their old home and most of the time you have a boomer couple with one or two kids max who insist on a 4 bedroom house a 600sqft kitchen, a home gym (despite being obviously out of shape, skinnyfat or fat) etc. even though they're unlikely to ever use all that space for anything other than storage

I grew up in Eastern Europe and lived in both commie-bloc and in a late-1800s building from Russian Empire times. Commie-blocs had virtually paper walls and everyone had to put carpets on them to have at least some degree of isolation. They also had terrible heating and appartements themselves were tiny human ant-nests. Apartment in "tsarist" building had thicc walls which kept you war even during craziest winters and all the rooms had so much space in them.
I wish I could travel in time to 1800s so I could find Lenin's father and put a 12 gauge into his balls so his putrid offspring would never contaminate the world.
