Car dealerships is the sleaziest place on the planet. You are taught to lie to customers, taught ways to present car so scratches and dents don’t show, taught how to explain bad damage on a car on reports to sound ok with lies etc. Taught to not put things in writing or text so customers can’t come after you.

One of the biggest annoyances is how they only sell features in “packages.” So if you want leather seats, you have to buy the luxury package for 3 grand which comes with a bunch of other stuff you may not want. Want a nicer stereo? Well then you need the “technology “ package for 4 grand which comes with blinkers on your side view mirror. Such a scam

Buy a chilton book on your make and model and do the repair/maintenance yourself on a saturday, it's cheaper, anyone can do it and it will do wonders for your self esteem.

I bought both of the cars I've owned at dealerships and haven't gotten screwed yet.

First one was an Sentra SE-R owned by the son of the dealership's head mechanic. Got a great deal on it and had no major issues until years later.

The car I recently bought was an FR-S. Bought it certified pre-owned, so it has a decent 10-year warranty. The salesman was a fucking shithead but I still feel like I got a decent deal. No issues with this one either - I just bring it to my local Toyota dealership for oil changes and shit.

Long story short:

>Have it checked out by a third-party mechanic before buying - use anything they find as leverage

Got a great deal on a 2006 BMW 7 series with 140,000 miles, picking it up on Friday. Only paying £2600 for it! Looking forward to enjoying some sweet German engineering lads.

I just had a dealer trying to sell me a used engine for $7,000, before labor.....when I can find the same used engine for 2000 on eBay. A local mechanic acquired engine for me and with labor cost me $3,000.

its worth it.
the same car would cost $25k+ in australia.

worst case scenario, the engine blows up and you sell it to the wreckers for $1k.

new-ish (2000s) corvettes and mustangs are $30k minimum.
996 porsche 911s are $40k minimum.

The local Subaru dealer does 4 wheel alignments for 70 bucks and for some reason independent shops never get the back done right.

Dealers often have coupons for 19-30 oil changes and will use oem oil and gears.

Their coolant flushes are often in sale for about 120 the same price a independent shop will charge

They often do brake job specials too.

non-dealerships arent better. my dealer wanted to fix my transmission and fuel lines for $400 so i went to other places. one said $680 and i got it done at a guy who did $140 but it broke a month later because he put on whatever brand tubes. went to dealership got it fixed no problems since.

i understand some are jewish and want to charge $300 for new window trim but important things should always be done at the dealer

Honestly I trust dealer ships more because if they fuck up, they will fix it. If a independent mechanic fucks your shit up and you can't prove it, you are fucked and are now trapped in a impossible court case or some shit. Its hard to find honest solo mechanics.

Also dealerships can always get a part easily for your car. Don't have to worry about some mechanic slapping some shit together or frakensteining some shit. I will admit though that if you get a GOOD HONEST SOLO MECHANIC or find a good honest car and body shop, then you will be better off probably. But thats hard. People say stealer ship but its for real the best option if you don't know anyone.

I work in a dealership. Most of the paranoid rambling in this thread is inaccurate at best. Getting your vehicle serviced at a dealership keeps your warranties intact, they immediately see and fix recalled parts, even the work itself has warranty. Where i work there is a 12 month 12k mile warranty on literally any mechanical fix. We bend over backwards to help customers and do what we can to maintain a loyal customer base. Yes our prices are higher because there is a higher overhead, more mouths to feed. We get so many Fuck ups from independent shops it's insane to think people bring their expensive European cars to podunk mom and pop shops for repairs without specialty tools. Makes me cringe.

My advice: get an Infinity G37x sedan if you guys have them in Straya. They're far more practical, have the same engine as the 370, and have a kickass AWD system. I considered getting a used one back when I needed a car, but they were just out of my price range.

I have two Mercedes. The dealership lied like a bunch of fucking kikes saying that german cars need to be repaired at the dealer. The fucks wanted me to buy several warranties. I work on the cars myself and if its something out of my reach I go to a trusted shop.

for example, porsche and bmw offer european delivery programs where you can fly out and pick up your custom vehicle from the factory, even inspect your vehicle as it is being made. but also there is much more included in that process. i believe some other brands offer this but not as extensively

Every new car gets driven off the assembly line into a shipping container or on a trailer that is used to transport it overseas or directly to a dealership. Usually about 2-4 miles long. They could directly load the cars off the line into a shipping container but they drive them for a little for quality control sakes. No new car is really truly "new" by the time it makes its way to the consumer after the number of test drives the cars probably been out on.

My vehicles have always been Chevy’s because they seem very easy to work on and repair and replacement parts are fairly inexpensive. Secondary systems like brakes and air conditioning seem to be what falls apart in the life of the vehicle while the power train lasts.

Audicare for my S4 is only $1000 for every service for 5 years, it's actually not a bad value at all. An oil change for this thing costs $175 anyway and I'm sure a prospective future buyer would love to see it.

also guys it's better to pay the depreciation and buy a brand new base trim car and drive it until its warranty expires than to deal with repairing, yo u can get payments in the $300 a month and just trade in its residual value when the powertrain warranty is ending for similar payments at zero APR

many different cars from different brands. it depends on how you take care of it. this relates to my other post in regards to taking your car to the dealership for service. it will be maintained properly and will last much longer. mostly chevy/gm, honda/acura, toyota/lexus, mercedes, etc...but yes some components usually will fail but the engines will always keep going without internal repairs needed

usually genuine filters are the best, aftermarket are usually made with lesser quality (less filtration) but there are some "performance" aftermarket filters out there that are ideal to use opposed to genuine.
changing your oil that frequently is the reason the engine lasts so long. especially using synthetic.

My two cents: I've owned 4 vehicles in my life
The first was a stock 96' Chevy Blazer daily driver that I bought from a family friend. I ran it ragged for 6 years until I finally bent the frame on the mud flats, bought for $3500.
The second was a 97' Chevy Blazer that I bought for $800, died 5 months later when it blew a headgasket.
Thirdly I bought a used 2010 Ford Focus LE for $15,000 at a dealership, ran well, no problems but sold it to my brother.
Now I own a 2003 Chevy Blazer that I paid too much for ($3500) and am probably into it for $6000 at this point with new tires etc and frame repair after going too hard offroad.

tl;dr If you want a reliable vehicle go buy one from a dealership or single driver family friend who knows that they are about.
Never buy brand new.
I enjoy fixing all of the little things on the Chevys since they are so easy to work on and find parts for. Updoot and enjoy my blog
