You have the google app store embedded into your phone and a host of spying services, google monetization, and google services.
Look into getting a phone with stock LineageOS, a version of android that is majority open source and by default includes no google services or app store. I have a used galaxy S5 loaded with lineage and I can make some fully open source application recommendations if you would like.
Apple and Microsoft are not alternatives, they do not provide their source code, and therefore the freedom to do whatever you want on your device, you cannot trust them to not pull this kind of shit when they have the market cornered.

The problem here is that no phone providers care about offering you the source code for the products you buy so you can choose what you want and don't want. They load them with everything you don't want with no options.
Currently if you're looking to grab an android phone, an unlocked bootloader, and lineageOS will clear the gap. Doesn't necessarily matter what phone but Huawei is locking down all their bootloaders like faggots forbidding you from even making any choice.
If you can get spendy and feel like getting experimental and ditching android the Librem 5 is on the horizon, there's a poorfag version called the PinePhone from a different company. Every bit of software beyond the bootloader will hav e the source code available for you allowing people to curate and strip privacy harming features for you.
searx, startpage, etc. so what. it's the tracking device that is the problem. i would go flip phone, and have, but find it inconvenient to text and drive in my usual reckless manner.

It's true, trying to get any standard phone from the locked bootloader stage to rooted+Lineage installed stage is a convoluted multi-step process. And if you fuck up, you can and will brick your device. The whole process took me 5 hours last time.
That's why you should try to get something with LineageOS stock ROM instead.

For those of you stuck with a unrootable Android download NoRoot Firewall, disable every fucking thing you can in app settings including Google services, and block whatever else you want with the firewall. Once in awhile you may have to shut off services that respawn in developer options. It's how I cope for now.

You will not have google services.
Optionally you can install the google services and at least strip some of the privacy invading stock apps with OpenGapps. It's a smaller google services install but it's still pozzed.
So for wagie apps it may be better to load on the gapps or if you have a phone that can dual boot you can actually just have one google partition for work and one for privacy.
I'm going Gentoo on this shit. Gonna love it. I have to sell some stacks of hardware before I can afford new toys though.

It is a 100% free as in freedom app store. Use 'OSM And' for maps, it doesn't have a lot of addresses but the offroad capability kicks google's ass out of the gate. Perfect for innawoods and F-Droid has a survival manual.

The best I've found is the galaxy S5 for the price, durability, water resistance, removable battery, USB2/3 micro connector for compatibility and speed of transfer, and just the functionality of Lineage on it is solid.

Don't use Discord. Ultra giga Pozzed. Their only source of income is to farm your user session and all data passed through the service. Mouse movements, voice, text, keystrokes. The client is fucking scary even in browser. Wire is a good alternative and RocketChat is best if self hosted, along with perhaps NextCloud.
